STYLE NO. 8111 : Iron Ranger

The 8111 is a rugged 6-Inch boot, featuring premium Amber Harness leather, chrome hardware, speed hooks, Goodyear welt construction and triple stitched quality. Its double layer leather toe cap, leather heel pocket and Nitrile Cork outsole make it a favorite.

THE HISTORY BEHIND THE STYLE

The local residents of the Mesabi Iron Range in northern Minnesota are proudly known as Iron Rangers due to their rugged toughness. The Iron Ranger work boots were built for iron miners in this region who required a double layer of leather over the toe for extra safety. It’s tough and elegant all at once.

Oil-Tanned leather is a very durable and vivid leather. Oil-Tanned leather is a very durable and vivid leather.

Oil-Tanned Leather

S.B. Foot Tanning Co. is best known for oil-tanned leather which is used to build a variety of timeless Red Wing styles. This leather is water, stain and perspiration resistant, and has a more natural look and feel because less finishing materials have been applied, allowing its natural beauty to shine through. Oil-tanned leather is exceptionally durable and has been used to build countless work boots throughout Red Wing’s 108+ year history.

The 8111 is built using the No. 8 Last:

Rated 5 out of 5 by Although they cost a small fortune, they are worth every penny! I first was introduced with Red Wing in Leuven, Belgium, me an my roommates went there for the weekend. This city is small so it is possible to see all the highlights in one weekend. And so we did, after a couple of walks my feet were sore like H. When I complained about my 'walking shoes' being totally rubbish my roommate showed me his footwear. He was wearing an awesome brown leather shoe. I quote him, 'When I turned 18 my dad came to me and told me that, now I have become fully grown up, a real man needs real boots. So we went to Amsterdam.' That is were he bought his Beckmans Cigar colour. I thought they looked awesome and more important; They were handmate and great quality footwear. After he told me the price I was astonished. I had never bought shoes that I expected to wear for more than one year. So I talked to my dad and he told me to do it. So after saving up for a month or three I was finally ready for my first pair of Red Wings. After trying some different sizes and in-sole combinations, I ended up with a size 8,5 Iron Ranger in Amber Harness (8111). I wear a medium size in-sole, because my feet are overly flat. So therefore I had some spare space to fill up. The first week of breaking in was, to be honest, pretty heavy. My feet ached the first days, but after that week my shoes started to accept me I guess. The following month I wore my IR's five days per week, which resulted in a pair of boots that are now perfectly formed to my feet. I try to wear them in all occasions so I beat them up pretty good. The guy who helped me choose my best fitting pair of IR's told me to only condition them twice a year. I am reading tons of reviews where people condition their boots every two months or so, as I mentioned already I am not experienced with leather boots so I have no idea what method of conditioning is preferred. Apart from that I am very happy with my IR's they look awesome in combination with almost every pair of trousers so that is nice. I hope they will age well and I am already looking for my second pair. I think I will go for the 875 Moc Toe. An aged 875 looks great! If you have any questions or tips for me feel free to comment! Rated 5 out of 5 by The best boot I have ever owned I have worn these everyday for almost 2 years and they are still going strong. These boots once they get broken in are like slippers. The only thing to be aware of is there aren't great for Buffalo winters due to the flat sole. December 25, 2015

Rated 5 out of 5 by exelent in all points I baught a pair of these puppies in Bozeman, I was there for a fishingtrip, and stumbled over them in a store downtown Bozeman. I have allways wanted to have a pair of Red Wings, and the iron ranger were everything I have looked for, Sturdy and goodlooking! the break in was a struggle, but after a week and a half, suddenly over a night they felt like a secondskin. I'm working in a clothingstore here in Sweden and I walk all the time around in the store and helping customers and I need good shoes! they are breathable because after a 8 hours of working, you don´t almost feel anything and your foot feels fresh. I will highly recommend them for every person who want a highclass shoes! I will wear theme till they fall apart Johan sterner/ Orebro sweden December 2, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Like wearing a cloud on your foot. These boots feel like you're wearing a cloud on your foot... Ok, maybe not initially, but after getting through the break-in period, you'll put them on one morning and they'll magically feel like you just put your foot in a cloud, no joke. I wore mine 12 hrs/day for a solid 3 weeks straight, and viola, they now feel like they were made just for my feet. $320 may seems a little pricey, but just hold these puppies in your burly man hands and you'll know why they are priced like that. I wish I could give these a 6 Stars rating, because that's exactly what they deserve. I was once like you, did a bunch of online research, narrowed down your selection to a couple different boots, etc... just stop it already! Do yourself a favor and just go out and try a pair on, trust me on this. You will not find a better quality boot, period. November 24, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by First pair of RW boots. Love these things! Bought these in March '15. Took a little time to break-in and thought I would need a special insole. Ended up wearing them enough with just the basic set-up as they came out of the box and now they are perfect. My only draw back is that I've oiled them twice and now they have a darker "mocha" color to them, so I may need to learn more about which products to use - however, the oiled mocha color is very rich looking. Advice, be patient with the break-in, in the end you will be really happy. November 12, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Brilliant boots I've loved wearing my boots from the first time I put them on. I did make the mistake of buying my usual bootsize but would recommend going down a half to a full size depending on the width of your feet. I've now got a Red Wing insert which compensates very well and makes them fit perfectly. I can't wait to buy my next pair. November 10, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Classic Style at its Best Absolutely love these boot, Never thought they would have been good hiking boots but I took them to the top of Estes Cone in Colorado, 4 miles up and back down again and they did great. These are my favorites and look good with just about any natural made material, I own them in Harness but the Muleskinner is my Fav. December 24, 2015
