STYLE NO. 2931 : Ice Cutter
Built for intense and seemingly endless winters, the 2931 features Red Maple Ottertail waterproof leather, natural wool for insulated warmth, Norwegian welt, and a durable Vibram Lug outsole. It’s also inherently water and ice resistant.
THE HISTORY BEHIND THE STYLE
Constructed with northland durability, the Ice Cutter was originally built to provide rugged northern workers with an insulated boot built on an aggressive sole capable of gripping ice and snow. When Red Wing introduced this classically robust style, we made sure to meet the needs of workers who wanted a boot that wore well on both the frozen surface of a remote northland lake as well as on the pedestrian sidewalks of storefront streets. Built using natural wool for insulated warmth, beautiful Otter Tail leather, and a rugged lug sole the Ice Cutter offers enhanced traction and slip-resistance for those living in areas where the weather can get a bit moody.
Oil Tanned leather is a very durable and vivid leather.
S.B. Foot Tanning Co. is best known for oil-tanned leather which is used to build a variety of timeless Red Wing styles. This leather is water, stain and perspiration resistant, and has a more natural look and feel because less finishing materials have been applied, allowing its natural beauty to shine through. Oil-tanned leather is exceptionally durable and has been used to build countless work boots throughout Red Wing’s 108+ year history.
In order to build a Red Wing boot to an exact size and width, the boot is constructed around a shoe last.
STYLE NO. 2931 : Ice Cutter
A new pair of Red Wing Heritage boots should fit comfortably tight on your foot, with enough room to freely wiggle your toes. Over time the full grain leather upper, leather footboard and cork midsole mold to your feet, creating an enduring and customized fit over time with each wear.
The 2931 is built using the No. 8 Last:
Features a bump toe for more room up-front
Fits a variety of foot shapes
Should be sized up ½ if used with a footbed or orthotic

Great winter boots!I just had to pick up a pair of these, from Skomaker Dagestad in Oslo. Perfect for the Arctic winter in northern Norway. The wool lining is great, and is saving me from using an extra thick wool sock on cold and snowy days. Broke in after a week or two. I sized down one size. Great stuff and a good investment, as they will last for many years with some regular maintenance. Already looking into getting a pair of non-insulated Red Wings, for spring and autumn use.

Quality bootMy wife bought me these boots a year ago as a birthday present. Since then I have used them during the winter, spring and fall seasons few times a week.
Break-in period was really painful for ankles and took a little bit over two weeks, but after that the boots have been a real pleasure to use, the leather and the sole are super comfortable. Also the quality of the boots is outstanding and in addition they just look plain good. Thanks to the wool insulation, I never had any problems with my feet freezing.
All in all, an extremely well made boot for keeping your feet warm and dry and in place during the cold seasons. I'm sure these will last many many years to come. Definitely worth the price.

after one yearI live in Montreal, Canada and we get a lot snow, ice and cold weather. As soon as I saw these new boots I wanted to try them and wearing them for the pas winter was not disappointing.
First, the inside wool lining makes them much warmer than any other Red Wings I wore in the past.
Secondly, the sole is just perfectly made to keep you stable on snow ans ice. Also, the boot is nearly not as bulky and heavy as you could think. I could keep them sometimes all day in my office without being uncomfortable.
Third, and maybe a bit less important but still, they look good with any pants I wear: straight or skinny.
These boots are the perfect addition to you wardrobe if you live in a place that gets very cold and snowy during winter, they may be a bit too warm if you live in a warmer region.

Close, but no cigar. My Red Wings are the most well-made and comfortable boots I have ever owned. The Ice Cutters I purchased, while comfortable, were not as well-made as my other Red Wing Heritage boots. First, the Vibram sole began to separate after the first day of wear, which happened—because I had not protected them yet—around the house. I had this happen with Vibram before. Second, the stitching around the sole was broken. That is not such a big a deal, but my other Red Wing Heritage boots are not like that, even after months of wear. Third, the leather is attractive but, even though I used Red Wing mink oil and protector before wearing them outside, water seeped up into the upper and stained certain areas a dark colour (not salt stains, though, which is odd). They are warm and comfortable boots, with excellent traction, but my pair of Ice Cutters are not tough enough for Canadian winter. However, I think they could be easily improved with a better quality sole and water-proofing and, despite the quality issues with this pair, Red Wing still makes the best boots.
