Sheep ranching has deep roots in American history. The Chelsea Rancher boot was developed so that ranchers would have a sturdy boot which, when their sheep were threatened, could easily be pulled on at a moment’s notice. STYLE NO. 2917 : Chelsea Rancher

The 6-Inch 2917 slips on easily, featuring premium Briar Oil Slick leather, a Roccia outsole, Goodyear welt construction and contrasting red stitching.

THE HISTORY BEHIND THE STYLE

The Chelsea Rancher boot was engineered specifically for sheep ranchers. The boots’ lack of laces and buckles made them easy for ranchers to slip on in the middle of the night to run out quickly and protect their flocks.

Oil-Tanned Leather

S.B. Foot Tanning Co. is best known for oil-tanned leather which is used to build a variety of timeless Red Wing styles. This leather is water, stain and perspiration resistant, and has a more natural look and feel because less finishing materials have been applied, allowing its natural beauty to shine through. Oil-tanned leather is exceptionally durable and has been used to build countless work boots throughout Red Wing’s 108+ year history.

STYLE NO. 2917 : Chelsea Rancher

A new pair of Red Wing Heritage boots should fit comfortably tight on your foot, with enough room to freely wiggle your toes. Over time the Full Grain Leather upper, Leather footboard and Cork Midsole mold to your feet, creating an enduring and customized fit over time with each wear.

The 2917 is built using the No. 8 Last:

  • Features a bump toe for more room up-front
  • Fits a variety of foot shapes
  • Should be sized up ½ if used with a footbed or orthotic

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Boot! Quality boot, it fits well and is more comfortable to break in with the slip on design. The only downside is that it sets off the metal dectectors when I go thru airport security.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Style, comfort and longevity This is the second pair of these boots I have purchased from Red wing. The first pair in black I intended for work as I travel a lot and needed a pair of boots that work well with a suit, or with casual wear for the evening. Essentially, so I don't have to carry more than one set of footwear when flying around Europe. However, once broken in, which took nearly 9 months, these are now my preferred foot wear outside of work too and I pretty much wear them every day. This is the best quality leather I have ever owned and they fit like a second skin. I have had them now for 18 months and with regular polishing they still look like new. Also I normally wear the outside edge of shoes rather quickly but these have lasted exceptionally well. I was so impressed that today I received my second pair so that the black ones can remain for work/travelling, while the brown pair can be for everyday use. Without doubt the best quality pair of boots I have ever owned. The only downside? They activate airport scanners and have to be removed before passing through security, but given they are slip ons this is not a hardship.
