STYLE NO. 8086 : Iron Ranger

The rugged 6-inch 8086 Iron Ranger features premium Charcoal Rough & Tough leather, dark gun metal eyelets and speed hooks, Goodyear welt construction, triple stitched quality, plus a durable Vibram® 430 Mini-lug sole for grip while maintaining the classic Iron Ranger construction and silhouette

THE HISTORY BEHIND THE STYLE

The early history of iron mining on Minnesota’s Mesabi Range is intertwined with that of Red Wing Shoe Company. The miners needed tough but comfortable boots that could stand up to the long days and tough conditions a northern Minnesota mine pit presented. Red Wing responded with a boot made of thick leather with an oil resisting outer sole, speed lacing hooks, and a comfortable cork midsole. The defining characteristic of these boots though, was their double layered toe, capped to protect the miner’s feet from injury as they labored with hand tools and heavy machinery. That boot is still made today, the fittingly named Iron Ranger, and it represents not only Red Wing’s commitment to making boots for working men and women but also its Minnesota origins.

Oil Tanned leather is a very durable and vivid leather. Oil Tanned leather is a very durable and vivid leather.

Oil-Tanned Leather

S.B. Foot Tanning Co. is best known for oil-tanned leather which is used to build a variety of timeless Red Wing styles. This leather is water, stain and perspiration resistant, and has a more natural look and feel because less finishing materials have been applied, allowing its natural beauty to shine through. Oil-tanned leather is exceptionally durable and has been used to build countless work boots throughout Red Wing’s 108+ year history.

STYLE NO. 8086 : Iron Ranger

A new pair of Red Wing Heritage boots should fit comfortably tight on your foot, with enough room to freely wiggle your toes. Over time the full grain leather upper, leather footboard and cork midsole mold to your feet, creating an enduring and customized fit over time with each wear.

The 8086 is built using the No. 8 Last:

  • Features a bump toe for more room up-front
  • Fits a variety of foot shapes
  • Should be sized up ½ if used with a footbed or orthotic

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best shoe I have had! I usually wear size 14 EE in most boots. The biggest the store had was 13 D. I tried them on and they surprisingly fit. They were slightly snug on the outside of my feet but after wearing them only a few days they feel like they were tailored just for me. Perfect shoe and will buy another pair soon!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very impressed I read alot of reviews to initially make me want this boot, it was clear by what people said they were tough and lasted forever, and looked great. I went into a store to try on a pair to confirm my size because i wear a 13 in boot and 14 in sneaker, and 13 was perfect. Now that i have received the boots, I have worn them everywhere since. they do look really good, slim profile for a boot which is nice, and they have outstanding build quality. I have not broken them in but right out of the box they were pretty comfortable for me. Im really impressed with these boots overall and i would highly recommend them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This boot is AWESOME! Unbelievable fit right out of the box. The boots have a great, classic look and the fit and finish is second to none! I bought these to wear primarily for riding my motorcycle. I wanted the durability and also have a clean style to wear out to dinner or to the office. I definitely found what I was looking for! Nothing but compliments on the boots and guys wanting to know what brand and where to get them. You get what you pay for when it comes to Red Wing. Your feet have to last you your entire life!! Don't skimp on the footwear! Buy the best; I did! You won't be disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well happy with them. Feel amazing and look as good. Was initially reluctant to buy due to the price - I've never paid even half that for shoes before - however, glad I did. I bought a pair online but they were too long so went to RW London and swapped them: the store were amazing - friendly and knowledgeable - and helped me get the right size; massive props to them. I've got the EE width (my foot is 11cm wide at the widest bit when stood) and they fit beautifully. They're comfortable and supportive without being stiff and unyielding. The sole is good and solid but still comfortable. Due to this and the excellent customer service I received, RW London now have customer for life. Good work.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I highly recommend the 8086. I purchased the 8086. After the break in period the have become the most comfortable footwear I own.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor quality, beware I ordered them online. First pair came with bruised leather, absolutely not premium material. I returned them, purchased second pair. This one came with damaged one shoe in a way that stitches were torn. On top of the shoes in this pair have slightly different colour. Both shipment contained a note confirming careful quality control- which is funny overall; I never wear them, second pair was returned immediately.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You're 2 months from the best boots ever. I'm 15 months in with my charcoal Iron Rangers, and I will never buy a pair of non-Red Wing boots again. Measured at a Red Wing store, I ordered a half-size down from my normal. As many have noted, the break-in period is no joke. Sore feet, hot spots, and occasional mid-day swaps to an old pair of boots were the norm for about 6 weeks for me. Since about week 7 until now, week 63 or so, they've plateaued at a level of "not quite slippers, but close" comfort. I'm envious of the new vibram mini-lug sole, as I have cork nitrile and they're slick as spit on snow and ice, but a skating rink is about the only place that I won't walk in my Rangers. Next pair of boots: Iron Rangers in Copper R&T. Then I'll be set for life.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I have 2 pair- 8114 and 8115 and both are excellent. I purchased a pair of the 8115 2 years ago. The rough and tough leather is excellent. It seems to be "self healing", and it is very forgiving on scratches and such. They say to go 1 size down, but in my case that wasn't for me. I purchased my regular size (10.5 D). I have found that I can adjust the size by adjusting how I lace them up. I have very flat feet, and the lack of arch support is a plus for me. Sometimes I use Red Wing inserts, and some times I don't depending on the condition of my feet that day. I have wide feet, and the combination of wide feet and flat feet make this boot fit me perfectly.
