STYLE NO. 2990 : Engineer

Tall and rugged like engineers themselves, the 2990 pull-on boot features plain toe styling, premium Black Harness leather, a Nitrile Cork outsole, Goodyear welt construction and silver hardware.

THE HISTORY BEHIND THE STYLE

Originally developed for engineers working on America’s railroads, the Engineer Collection’s pull-on styling and minimal stitching was designed to protect their feet from hot embers.

Oil Tanned leather is a very durable and vivid leather. Oil Tanned leather is a very durable and vivid leather.

Oil-Tanned Leather

S.B. Foot Tanning Co. is best known for oil-tanned leather which is used to build a variety of timeless Red Wing styles. This leather is water, stain and perspiration resistant, and has a more natural look and feel because less finishing materials have been applied, allowing its natural beauty to shine through. Oil-tanned leather is exceptionally durable and has been used to build countless work boots throughout Red Wing’s 108+ year history.

STYLE NO. 2990 : Engineer

A new pair of Red Wing Heritage boots should fit comfortably tight on your foot, with enough room to freely wiggle your toes. Over time the full grain leather upper, leather footboard and cork midsole mold to your feet, creating an enduring and customized fit over time with each wear.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect second pair this was my second pair of red wing boots, and let me tell ya. these boots are well worth the price tag. two months in and they feel like a dream on my feet. I recomend buying 1 to 1/2 size smaller than normal, as i usually wear a size 7.5 or 8 and size 7 red wings fit perfect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unbeatable I bought these boots in Germany. They needed some breaking in, as you would expect with such boots. Once broken in however, they can only be described as awesome. Don't waste your time looking at others.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My new "go to" boots! I love these boots! Being in the military all these years I've grown very picky over the quality of boots and I've owned multiple models of Red Wing boots as well as multiple other companies and versions of higher boots and the simple truth is these boots have been the best investment, high boot wise, I've ever made. I've tried tanker boots, cowboy boots, and even "biker" boots and nothing has come close to the comfort and quality of these 2990's. When I first bought them they were slightly loose but that was easily fixed with a simple 1/8" insole. Since then, these boots have been worn practically everyday I'm not in uniform boots and have only become more comfortable as they molded to my feet. The first two-three days were a bit of work though. Once you get past that, and maybe with a little oil, the boots are superb. A word of note, the top buckle does have three lengths of adjustability for those with thicker calves. I, myself, have "chicken legs" so the smallest setting was just right. The leather and sole contrast looks great and the heel height makes it very easy to walk as well as easy to shift gears on a motorcycle. If I didn't already have the Iron Rangers in brown harness I'd definitely buy the 2991's too. Definitely recommended if you like the higher boot design!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The perfect boot!!!! These boots are incredible, so incredible I had to order them from the UK since these boots are not offered in the US! You can not go wrong with these boot, take your time break them in properly and you will have the best boot of your life for decades... I own multiple pairs of Red Wing boots and I can not express it enough, if you need a boot you can depend on you owe it to yourself to get fitted and get you a pair of Red Wings!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sweet boots I've been wearing these boots for about 2 months and they have broken in pretty nicely. I would definitely buy a 1/2 size smaller than your normal size. I did and they fit perfectly. When I buy a pair of boots, they get put to work pretty hard and these appear to be a pair that will last a long long time. I play in a rock band, ride Harleys and work at a power plant and never take my boots off and these boots manage to be comfortable for all of my shenanigans. Besides being a very high quality boot, one of the biggest pros for these redwings is that they have a shorter heel than all of the other popular brand harness and engineer boots. I think the shorter heel makes for a more comfortable walk if you're going to be putting a ton of miles on them. I would imagine I'll have these boots for decades. Rock on! \m/

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great Boot once broken in I understand this type of handmade boot has a break in period but it's unreasonable amount of time and effort when they could fix the problem areas for an easier break in. Mainly, the leather patch on the inside of buckle that runs against your outside calf. It will tear your skin within a block of walking because that leather is like sand paper. The ankle also has an area inside that the two leather pieces meet that causes friction when wearing. Both of these issues could be addressed with smooth leather patches. You cannot wear these without having the right pair of socks. Now I don't want a really thick sock to be the only pair I can use to mold my feet into these. I tried hiking socks, boot socks and a lot of them are not tall enough or leather will still cause friction to your skin. I recommend either a skiing sock that goes to the knee or what I'm doing using a sport sock (soccer or football) pulled all the way up and then over the top of boot. You cannot see that when wearing jeans etc. The sport sock is thinner and I feel my foot will mold better also the durability of the fabric makes it so the leather doesn't cause much friction though it. If they fixed the problems I mentioned I would give the boots a 5 out of 5 otherwise. But the first day I wore these with regular boot socks in 5 blocks I tore both ankles and both outter shins up even with a good boot sock.
