STYLE NO. 2951 : Rover

The 2951 6-inch round toe Rover features our Black Harness leather, Goodyear welt construction for durability and good looks on a Malt Cushion Crepe sole for comfort.

THE HISTORY BEHIND THE STYLE

The Rover was a name given to machine operators in early twentieth-century cotton mills and is also the name of our 6-inch round toe work boot. Made with premium leather from our tannery, and our Cushion Crepe shock-absorbing sole, this boot is built for comfort. The sole was first introduced on our work boots in 1952 and was found on our venerable No. 766 Cush-N-Crepe All Around Work Shoe up until the 1980s.

Oil-Tanned leather is a very durable and vivid leather. Oil-Tanned leather is a very durable and vivid leather.

Oil-Tanned Leather

S.B. Foot Tanning Co. is best known for Oil-Tanned leather which is used to build a variety of timeless Red Wing styles. This leather is water, stain and perspiration resistant, and has a more natural look and feel because less finishing materials have been applied, allowing its natural beauty to shine through. Oil-Tanned leather is exceptionally durable and has been used to build countless work boots throughout Red Wing’s 110+ year history.

The 2951 is built using the No. 8 Last:

  • Many customers buy Red Wing Heritage footwear 1/2 size smaller than their normal size
  • Trying on Red Wing Heritage footwear in a store is recommended to get the perfect fit
  • Features a bump toe for more room up-front
  • Fits a variety of foot shapes

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rest Assured... VERY happy with this purchase. I've owned, loved and very seriously worn a pair of Iron Rangers in black harness leather for just over a year now, and was very keen on getting another pair of Red Wings. After a brief but intense breaking in period with these Rovers, I see no reason to expect any less of them. Random observations: Of course, I guess most folks know to size down up to one full size with Red Wing Heritage boots in this last. That being said, these seem to fit ever so slightly larger than my Iron Rangers (Which I purposely sized pretty snug), mainly in length but a tiny bit in width too. Both are within what I consider the margin of error however, and both are perfectly comfortable. Secondly, the Rover sole is definitely more comfortable to walk on, however even after a brief period of ownership, it is clear they are not going to be the most durable soles. I'm fine with this, but maybe it's something to consider.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Shopped, Visited Store, and Purchased After shopping for a pair of Red Wings for 8 years on line, I finally visited the Red Wings store in San Bernardino, CA. I tried on the Iron Rangers 8111 and although I enjoyed them, my wife wasn't the biggest fan of the heel (sad). After a few days of online shopping, I went back to the store to try on the Rover in Copper Rough and Tough. These babies are beautiful and after a few more days of consideration, we made the purchase. As you know, the cost is big but they are righteous. The build quality is beyond anything I've ever owned and I've worn them a few hours a day for the last 3 weeks with a bit of pain because the leather in new (expected). They are at a point now where all the leather around my ankles and foot is now softer and pliable. I've put a little bit of the Red Wings Leather Cream once a week to help with the break-in. The foot bed is still firm and hopeful this breaks in over the next few weeks and months. The Rover is a handsome boot and have already received a few nice compliments which I didn't expect I would get because they are boots. Using them for everyday kicks and office work. They are so nice, I've purchased a Red Wing belt, this is also the real deal. In a few years, if I continue to have a good experience, I'll be able to purchase the Iron Rangers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First pair of Red Wings, 1 month review. Absolutely love the boots, but was a little disappointed with the fitting process at my local RW store. They didn't have the Rover in stock and didn't seem too interested in getting me measured up in store. I measured a 9 and thats what they wanted to order for me. Knowing they run big, I probably should have left and looked for a store that had stock. I had to ask about sizing down just from me reading reviews on the site. I ended up with an 8.5, they were almost hard to get into in the store so I figured I was good. The first 4-5 days are a little rough, a week you are getting better and by a month they are perfect. After a full month I'm getting nervous that I needed to go down a full size rather then just a half. I still love these boots and recommend them, just definitely try them on in store in 1/2 and full size down. I wear these for office/warehouse work and will definitely be getting another pair in a different color. The COPPER ROUGH & TOUGH LEATHER are more brown in the pictures online. In person they have more red to them. I used the RW leather conditioner and it darkened up the brown and to a better color IMO. (pictures shown with conditioner used)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful Boot So I bought these boots yesterday. I have narrow feet, and they are perfect for me. I did go into my local red wings store and I got fitted. Normally I’m a 9.5 in basically everything, and the 9.5s felt good. But the 9s felt better, so I was sized down half a size. I recommend you get fitted. Umm, the boots are absolutely beautiful. Like seriously perfect. I love them. My feet are definitely hurting during the break in, but totally worth it. I hope

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Untapped Market My friends own these and they're beautiful. Upon my inspection and via their testimonies, it's a fact that the Red Wing standard of quality and comfort is here in the Rover. I own a pair of mocs but I want these so badly; please, please, please make these in size 15!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LARGER SIZES? Any plans to make this in size 14? Please do. I own a pair of Oxblood Iron Rangers and I love them. I need a pair of these in black. Thanks!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from New favorite boots I needed a pair of black boots I could wear everyday for work--I'm a photojournalist. I found the Rover at the Red Wing store in Houston. The shop has a digital measuring device that determined my correct size. Four days later, the order arrived at my doorstep. These boots broke in quick-- about a week--much faster than my old Iron Rangers. Thus far, I've been very impressed with the Rover's comfort, craftsmanship and value. They're my new, everyday boots. Loving them.
