STYLE NO. 3352 : Tall Engineer

Built for women using premium Red Wing Mahogany Oro-iginal leather that’s triple-stitched for unmatched quality. The Tall Engineer utilizes Goodyear welt construction, nickel buckles, and a Vibram® 430 Mini-lug sole for added traction.

THE HISTORY BEHIND THE STYLE

Our Engineer boots were originally designed for the namesake railroad men who drove steam locomotives coast to coast but their pull-on simplicity and minimal stitching have made them popular beyond the railyard, with men and women.

Oil-Tanned leather is a very durable and vivid leather. Oil-Tanned leather is a very durable and vivid leather.

Oil-Tanned Leather

S.B. Foot Tanning Co. is best known for Oil-Tanned leather which is used to build a variety of timeless Red Wing styles. This leather is water, stain and perspiration resistant, and has a more natural look and feel because less finishing materials have been applied, allowing its natural beauty to shine through. Oil-Tanned leather is exceptionally durable and has been used to build countless work boots throughout Red Wing’s 110+ year history.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Long story... It's been a long road with these boots! So, I was looking for a new pair of fall boots in about October, when my old, cheap pair fell apart, and a good friend who owned a pair of men's Heritage boots recommended Red Wing. Hearing how expensive they were, I immediately lost interest. But eventually out of curiosity, went with him to a local store JUST to get an idea of what I should be looking for in terms of quality and fit, as I had never owned leather boots and did want to invest in a pair of boots that would last me longer than a season or two. As it turns out, I walked out that afternoon with my pair of Tall Engineers. They took a lot of time to fit me in store, I had some concerns as I typically wear a size 9 shoe and was suggested an 8.5 based on the heel slippage and I having room to wiggle my toes. My foot is a little bit wider than average (but doesn't usually call for wide sized shoes), and I could feel some tightness across the top, but was assured that would stretch over time. I also have some pretty huge calves and was worried about the tightness around the leg of the boot. I unbuckled the top buckle to full width, which helped make it comfortable enough to wear, and was also told that would stretch out. During my first week, I needed a shoe horn to get my foot/leg into the boot. The first 3-4 days were TERRIBLE. I lost feeling in my toes and the pain was so awful that I would cry at my desk at work. I called back to my store, who told me that I could come back and exchange for a bigger size, but that I wouldn't get that perfect fit that way. They affirmed the pain would subside and to give it a few more days. I wore them all day for those first 7 days. After about day 5, they started to loosen and I wasn't feeling the numbness in my toes as often. After maybe a week, I didn't need the shoe horn any longer. Week after week of all-day everyday wear made them more and more comfortable. I eventually also tightened the buckle at the top of my boot because the top had become too wide. It's now March, and I think I am JUST now getting the perfect fit on my boot. I wore them daily from about October - December and got right to the cusp of a perfectly comfortable shoe, and then got a pair of Clara's because I loved the quality of these boots so much and began wearing those far more often as I attempted to break them in. With the addition of snowstorms, I effectively put my Engineers away from December-February and favored snow boots, and on the off days when I would wear them, felt that continued discomfort across the top of my foot - almost as if the boot had regressed - and wore them less because of it. I called in to the store I bought them from (shout out to the Red Wing in Lexington, KY - the service is so far above and beyond anything I've ever experienced in my life) who let me know that it's very likely that between the cold and having not worn them for a couple months, the leather has settled back down and will need to be re-broken in. They recommended rubbing in some boot cream and using a hair dryer to help the cream settle in and then wear them out for a few days. The cream will help to open the leather for more give. I bypassed the cream (I don't own a hair dryer!) but committed to wearing my boots for two straight days, and suddenly, the perfect fit!! It has been a crazy adventure with these boots, but I am so pleased to have something that fits perfectly, is so versatile, and looks fantastic. I get compliments every time I wear them out! Side note, I was a strong believer in black boots for Fall/Winter seasons and bought the brown because the store didn't have black in stock and I loved them that much. I was surprised to find that this color went with just about everything in my closet. For the outfits that don't match as intuitively, I bought a brown belt in the same shade as the boot. When I wear them together, magically everything comes together and matches. I would highly recommend these boots, even though my experience seems very different from others on here who fit perfectly out of the box and had no break-in period. I felt it important to share my experience in case anyone else was struggling - there is a light at the end of the tunnel! I wish it hadn't taken 5 months, but I am elated with how they fit now. I also cannot recommend enough purchasing in store and communicating with the staff openly during your break-in time. They are the experts! Without regular phone and in-store guidance, I most definitely would have given up. Apparently they only do this if you buy in store (I attempted to visit a store in Boston since moving here, and the service was dismal. The guy refused to be helpful because I didn't buy the shoes from his store. I don't know if that's an Red Wing policy or just how it is here.) Given how cold it is here in Boston, I've committed to continue wearing my boots at least twice a week - unless there is terrible snow - to help maintain the fit I've worked so hard to get.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I LOVE THESE BOOTS!!! I got these boots a few weeks ago and absolutely love them. They get better each time I wear them. But even the first time I wore them they were very comfortable. I am a teacher and I'm on my feet all day long and I had no problem breaking these in. I typically do not wear a new pair of shoes or boots to school for the first time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Birthday Gift I bought these for my wife for her birthday and she is in love. I have several pairs of Red Wings and was excited that I could get her a pair. The leather is softer than the men's boots and she didn't experience any break in soreness at all and the foot beds are padded leather. The beds feel pretty plush when I touch them with my hands and she says they are some of the most comfortable shoes she has ever walked in. Great job Red Wing, now she wants me to look at some of the heeled shoes for her.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Will Love These Forever I am a sucker for tall boots. I will wear them any chance I get. Being that I've already bought into the Heritage family, I was excited to hear about women's boots being brought back to the Heritage line. When I received my pair of boots, I was especially happy when I pulled them on and they fit perfectly! Usually the men's Heritage fit a little big, but the women's Heritage fit so well on my feet. I will care for my boots as long as they last, which will certainly be many years to come.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Review from the other side of the spectrum I am the opposite of the other ladies, I have narrow heels and small calves/legs. I have a good 1 in around with skinny jeans on in a size 9m. The buckles allow you to tighten a little but I don't really care that they aren't skin tight, I just worry about my heel slipping and rubbing. I'm nervous to go down to an 8.5 so I hope the local store has them in stock so I can try them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I plan to wear these long beyond the trend--fabulous!! These boots are classic, comfortable, adorable, and so well made in Minnesota. They are true to size. Most boots fit pretty tightly on my calves, and when I put these on, I was worried they were maybe too snug, but by the end of the day, the leather was adjusting to me, and they were perfect. They are 14.5 inches tall, a perfect height, and I love them. Our two daughters (Millenials) are asking for a splurge at Christmas to get a pair. I am wearing them to church today, the office tomorrow, and when they start to look a little rugged, I'll be wearing them in the woods for a very long time. Well done Red Wing! Thank you from Lake of the Woods!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautifully crafted! I have been working at a Red Wing Shoe Store for almost 4 years, and I have been waiting for there to be a Heritage line for women since the beginning! I pre-ordered this boots and received them last week. The comfort and style is incredible. I have large calves, and these boots run in a 'B' width, so the top of the boot was a little snug, but that's something that can be fixed with a little breaking in. Yes, they are a little more expensive than your typical tall boot, but I can assure you nothing beats the quality of these. Overall, I am VERY impressed and proud of working for such an amazing company.
