STYLE NO. 8111 : Iron Ranger

The 8111 is a rugged 6-Inch boot, featuring premium Amber Harness leather, chrome hardware, speed hooks, Goodyear welt construction and triple stitched quality. Its double layer leather toe cap, leather heel pocket and Nitrile Cork outsole make it a favorite.

THE HISTORY BEHIND THE STYLE

The local residents of the Mesabi Iron Range in northern Minnesota are proudly known as Iron Rangers due to their rugged toughness. The Iron Ranger work boots were built for iron miners in this region who required a double layer of leather over the toe for extra safety. It’s tough and elegant all at once.

Oil-Tanned leather is a very durable and vivid leather. Oil-Tanned leather is a very durable and vivid leather.

Oil-Tanned Leather

S.B. Foot Tanning Co. is best known for Oil-Tanned leather which is used to build a variety of timeless Red Wing styles. This leather is water, stain and perspiration resistant, and has a more natural look and feel because less finishing materials have been applied, allowing its natural beauty to shine through. Oil-Tanned leather is exceptionally durable and has been used to build countless work boots throughout Red Wing’s 110+ year history.

STYLE NO. 8111 : Iron Ranger

A new pair of Red Wing Heritage boots should fit comfortably tight on your foot, with enough room to freely wiggle your toes. Over time the full grain leather upper, leather footboard and cork midsole mold to your feet, creating an enduring and customized fit over time with each wear.

The 8111 is built using the No. 8 Last:

  • Features a bump toe for more room up-front
  • Fits a variety of foot shapes
  • Most customers buy Red Wing Heritage footwear 1/2 size smaller than their normal size

Rated 5 out of 5 by My favorite boots! I have been wearing these almost constantly since December and they just keep getting better! I live in Arizona and I was afraid that when summer rolled around it would be too hot to wear them, but the leather breathes very well! I'm saving up for another pair! July 25, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Amazing boot and even better customer service I have been looking for a boot like this for 4 years. I finally pulled the trigger on the 8111's after countless hours of research. I live in Ohio and the winters here can be quite harsh so I was a bit hesitant with the smooth sole. However the staff at the Niles store were more than helpful, some of the guys there had the same boot and didn't have any problems in the winter. I normally wear size 13 but I went a full size down to 12 for these with a regular D width. The length and the width were perfect. The only problem was the top of the left boot pinched my big toe horribly and after looking it up online it seemed like a problem that wouldn't go away for most people so I ended up taking them back. However the staff at the store set me straight and convinced me to stick it out for a couple more weeks. I couldn't be more thankful for that because the pinch is gone and the boots are the most comfortable I've ever worn. These boots take a very long time to break in but once you get there all the hard work and pain pays off immensely. July 12, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Amazing Boots My first pair of Red Wing's and boy are these Amber Iron Rangers great! I'm usually an 11 and sized down to a 10 which really do fit perfectly. Honestly, the break in has been a breeze, people who complain about the break-in pain must have the wrong size as mine were comfortable from the start (day one i stood DJing for 6 hours with no problem!). 2 weeks in they are have softened a bit and are now just even more comfortable. The workmanship on these boots is something else and you just know they are going to last a long time and gain more character over time. I'm a total convert and love these boots! July 12, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by The best boots iv ever worn i just cant cant stop staring at these boots. Love them August 22, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Craftsmanship is second to none Have worn these boots over 100 miles so far with no complaints, everything from hiking trails in Minnesota and Wisconsin to the pavement in Chicago. July 4, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Here's why you should buy these boots Protection, style, and quality come with these boots on day one. Comfort, that comes with time. I believe that things that are perfect require an investment of time, these boots will be no exception. Today, 6 months later, I find a sensitive feel in these boots like no other boots I have ever worn and they are completely comfortable. This is certainly because my foot has changed from wearing these boots. I have slightly different and thicker calluses on my feet now. Your foot will change to accommodate these boots; and, your boots will change to accommodate you. The 8100 line has some subtle variations on how the leather will feel, I think the 8115s were more supple than the others - oh and the color is of a worn old penny after an application of the mink oil, but the moral of the story is this line will take on the contour of your foot, my friend who opted for the 8111s would testify to that. The leather will form around your ankle, arch and instep. The sole will form a depression under your heel and balls of your feet. So too, that cork bed will fill up around the end of your toes, around the back of your heel, and the beginning and end of your arch. I typically get 13s but my foot is really like a narrow 12.5, my 8115s fit me perfect in a 12. Due to this, I marked them as running a little long. While I have used the Red Wing insoles in other Red Wing boots, due to the conforming nature of the cork sole, I went without it and do not regret it one bit. These boots are worth it! August 5, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best Boots Ever I bought these boots online and had them shipped to Australia - the best boots ever, I have wide feet and have always been challenged to find footwear that are comfortable. I bought for work but now wear even on days off. Great Product!! I know this product as a kid growing up on the farm in Calistoga 40 years ago, thought I would give it a try, no regrets - bought some other boots, no good had to send them back. June 17, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Immediately my favorite footwear I bought the Red Wing Heritage 8111 Iron Ranger online. My dress shoes are normally 11.5 on average and my running shoes are 12s. I picked up these boots in a 10.5 D and they have fit me perfectly! The break-in is not nearly as bad as I thought after reading all the reviews. I got them three days ago, have worn them all three days and they are pretty much feeling great as of today. I feel like I can do anything in these boots. The moment they go on, you just feel right, know what I mean? I thought the price was steep but when I got them I immediately felt the quality and understood the price. I am going to be wearing these every day with my levis. And I've noticed when I'm not wearing my boots, I have them by the door and I constantly look at them because of how great they look. Trust me, get these boots and you will immediately be attached. Now just imagine how much more you will love them as the days and years go by. Grab them 1 size smaller than your normal boot and they will fit perfect right out the box. And if your normal shoes are not wide, then don't get wide (i got D, and it's great). June 12, 2016
