STYLE NO. 8188 : Pecos

The 8188 is from our Pecos western boot collection. Hawthorne Muleskinner leather, brown nitrile cork sole, Goodyear welt construction and triple stitched quality. A Red Wing quality work boot in western styling.

THE HISTORY BEHIND THE STYLE

Red Wing Shoe Company had an office in Dallas, Texas as early as 1923 to serve the unique market of ranchers, cowboys and oil drilling roughnecks in the region. At the time, most of these workers wore pull-on riding boots, often with decorative stitching, and Red Wing responded with one of its own in the 1930s. Our pull-on boot was given a new name, Pecos, after a town in Texas and it evolved into one of our most popular styles, thanks to its simple design, comfortable fit, and rugged good looks. Still made the same way with quality leathers in our factory in Red Wing, the Pecos is now seen on hardworking feet from coast to coast, both ends of the Mississippi, and everywhere in between. Call it a cowboy boot, with a Minnesota twist.

Roughout leather is a reverse suede leather made in our S.B. Foot tannery. Roughout leather is a reverse suede leather made in our S.B. Foot tannery.

Roughout Leather

Roughout leather is created using a reverse-suede technique at our very own S.B. Foot Tanning Co. While most tanneries split, thin and weaken the hide to create the rough suede surface, we simply use the other side of the hide. By doing so, we avoid splitting or thinning our full-grain hides. This makes our Roughout leather just as strong and durable as our other leathers.

STYLE NO. 8188 : Pecos

A new pair of Red Wing Heritage boots should fit comfortably tight on your foot, with enough room to freely wiggle your toes. Over time the full grain leather upper, leather footboard and cork midsole mold to your feet, creating an enduring and customized fit over time with each wear.

The 8188 is built using the No. 17 Last:

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pair of Awesome, Rugged Boots Posting this review specifically for sizing recommendations, I normally wear a size 9 EE in Redwings 875's, I bought these in a size 9 as well, but found them to be WAY too small, I'm 9 EE on a Brannock device and these in a size 10 fit perfectly. Overall the boots are unbelievably well made, and the leather is very rugged and unlike any other leather I've had on boots in the past. I own a number of custom made boots and find the craftsmanship of these boots to be up to par with them.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A western boot without the flash, but all the ruggedness. Thank you RW for releasing! Disclaimer: I am a RW super-fan so take this review with that in mind. This is my second pair of western boots I have ever purchased. I've been in the market for a few years now, however I haven't been able to find something I wanted to invest in. When Redwing released the 8188 recently, I knew these would be it. Truly is a beautiful boot and I cannot wait to see how it ages. On to the review... Negatives: since I live in Minnesota and it's cold/snowing six months out of the year I think RW could have done a better job making it an all-year boot, i.e.: cork sole = dangerous in icy and wet conditions, feet freeze in cold weather - this is my reasoning behind the 4 stars. My plan is to wear them until the winter and replace sole with a safer sole (probably something along the lines of what they have done with the new sole on the Iron Rangers). It would be a shame to put these boots away for the winter each year. I would be doing them a disservice if I only used them in spring, winter and fall. Don't expect these to break in right away - give them time. Run a bit narrow. Positives: good overall western work boot, they can do any job in summer, spring and fall, my other hawthorne leather boot ages incredibly well and are durable, comfortable, easy on/easy off. I would buy these again and again! Thank you RW for releasing these boots here!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Boots This is my first pair of cowboy boots and my first pair of Redwings. I definitely made the right choice. The minute I saw these boots, I could tell they were crafted on a different level than the others I had tried on. The leather was soft, supple, and yet thick and strong. When I tried them on, they fit like a glove...much more comfortable than other brands. They look great too, with a rich brown that is subtle and classy. No flashy embroidery or shocking colors here. Just classic, rugged boots that will last forever. The best part is, I recently found out all Redwings are made in the USA. That seals their status as the best boots you can buy. Perhaps the best thing I can say about these boots is that I wear them nearly every day and plan to wear them and repair them until they disintegrate...which will likely be years and years from now. And then I will buy another pair. If you want boots that will look great on the ranch or in the office and will outlive the cheaply made alternatives by a long shot, don't hesitate...get you some Pecos today. NOTE: I normally wear an 8.5 but my boots are 9.5 and fit perfectly. I recommend getting a bigger boot than your normal shoe size.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Boot...Built to Last I've had my boots for 25 years and I can say with absolute confidence that they are the real deal! The quality materials and professional workmanship are obvious as they have handled everything thrown at them for the past quarter of a century. I look forward to wearing my Red Wings for another 25 years!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from These are good boots. This is the first 'expensive' pair of boots i've ever owned. It makes a difference what you put on your feet. These boots are worn every day, and I expect they will last many years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Everyday Wear Boot I bought this boot to wear during warmer months with lighter-weight jeans and t-shirts. Super comfortable and great casual styling. I love the lower height of this pull-on. Would love to see this in a mid-brown and charcoal/black, with the same distressed finish.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Wanting to know what differs with redwing work boots I thought redwing was the most comfortable boot I ever had on. Until I got the pair I got now. I just about can't stand to put my feet in them. It's the same boot that I have bought in the past.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from beautiful boot, opening a little wide These are fantastic books. Quality is unmatched. Super comfy right out of the box. Love the sole as well. The leather is a great color and has a really nice feel to it. My only problem is top of the boot is so wide that they bulge out with jeans over them. I wear Levis 501, which isn't even a skinny/slim jean and they still bulge some. It's not a huge deal, just wish the vamp was a little more narrow. Overall, very nice work Red Wing.
