STYLE NO. 3104 : Postman Oxford

Inspired by the 101, the 3104 is an oxford crafted with Olive Mohave leather and an Atlas tred polyurethane outsole for a classic, yet modern look.

THE HISTORY BEHIND THE STYLE

In the 1950s, policemen still walked their beats and the postman walked his mail route. The hours spent on their feet called for comfortable and sturdy footwear and in 1954, Red Wing responded with style No. 101, a sturdy black oxford with a moldable insole. The shoe could be polished to meet uniform requirements, but it was tough enough for everything a policeman or mail carrier encountered on his rounds. Today the Postman is offered in a variety of color options.

Roughout leather is a reverse suede leather made in our S.B. Foot tannery. Roughout leather is a reverse suede leather made in our S.B. Foot tannery.

Roughout Leather

Roughout leather is created using a reverse-suede technique at our very own S.B. Foot Tanning Co. While most tanneries split, thin and weaken the hide to create the rough suede surface, we simply use the other side of the hide. By doing so, we avoid splitting or thinning our full-grain hides. This makes our Roughout leather just as strong and durable as our other leathers.

STYLE NO. 3104 : Postman Oxford

A new pair of Red Wing Heritage boots should fit comfortably tight on your foot, with enough room to freely wiggle your toes. Over time the roughout leather upper, genuine leather insole and cork filler mold to your feet, creating an enduring and customized fit over time with each wear.

The 3104 is built using the No. 210 Last:

  • Was designed for increased flexibility and lighter duty work
  • Most customers buy Red Wing Heritage footwear 1/2 size smaller than their normal size
  • Trying on Red Wing Heritage footwear in a store is recommended to get the perfect fit

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Try Before You Buy My motivation in writing this is to encourage buyers to take the time, if possible, and go to the store and have the shoe/boot sized for your foot. Try before you buy. My father bought me my 1st pair of Irish Setters back in the school year of 79/80. I have enjoyed Redwings ever since. As I aged I kept having to adjust my shoe size, but this comes with the territory. My last pair of work boots that I bought were a 996 and they were size 10 (the last several purchases were size 10). This would have been the 1st pair of Redwings that ever failed me. (I live in SE Asia and was out inspecting some corn fields when a sole fell off – I’m not really sure what happened but the next time I go Stateside I will have them repaired). The next pair of Redwings that I bought were these Postman Oxford 3103s for church and going out to dinner. I researched on the internet and knew that I fancied these. When I went Stateside I went into the store and after trying on the shoe I went up to a 10 ½. I am very pleased that I did. Now I am starting the process over again and am looking at the Blacksmith 3341 and the new Foreman Chukka 9219. My dilemma is the size. The Chukka is made with the 210 Last whereas the Blacksmith with the 8 Last. I suspect that with the Blacksmith I can drop back down to the size 10 but with the Chukka I may need to go with the size that I bought these Postman Oxfords in. I can wait until I go Stateside but run the risk of the store not having my size. Last time I was dragging my family around on the mass transit trains of D.C. looking for the stores. When I found the Redwing Store the manager was great but they did not have the 3103 in size 10. I dodged the bullet by needing to go up a size.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best fitting shoe I've ever had This shoe really takes the Postman up a notch. I was always interested in the 101, but what kept me away was the fact that when I looked at it all I was reminded of was that it was a postal worker shoe. The new Rough and Tough leathers on the white crepe sole really bring the line up a notch when it comes to fashion while keeping the quality and craftsmanship the same. I also own the 8111 and the 1907 boots in addition to the 3119 postman. In comparison I find the comfort out of the box to be the best with the 3119, but that has most to do with the fact that it fits me perfectly in 9.5D while my 1907's were too snug and the 8111's were too long.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Most comfortable oxfords I have ever worn! I am a long time Red Wing customer, but until now have only worn their boots. To switch it up a tad from my Iron Rangers, I decided to add a pair of the Postman Oxfords into my work and weekend rotation. I must say these are the most comfortable Oxfords I have ever worn and definitely share the same quality as all of my other Red Wings. It is great to see that they still are made in the USA as well. I highly recommend these as a great casual/weekend oxford that can work well when dressed up at the office or with a pair of jeans in the bar. On a side note, I wear a 9.5 in my Iron Rangers and ordered these in a 10 per recommendation of the great folks at Red Wing Heritage and they fit perfectly!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Most comfortable shoes ever I bought these shoes with slight hesitancy because I prefer wearing a boot with a soft sole. But I was extremely surprised to find how comfortable these Oxfords are. I've gotten numerous compliments about them. I'll definitely be looking into the Olive Green Oxfords for my next pair.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is an excellent shoe from Red Wing Heritage I will say that initially the shoe felt great. Then it after a wear or two it definitely needed to go through a break-in period. That has lasted about 4 months. They are now everyday shoes and are easily my go to shoes. Very happy with the overall quality and craftsmanship. The all leather footbed is broken in and very comfortable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another great pair of Red Wing Shoes Every time I buy a pair of Red Wing shoes it reaffirms you get what you pay for. 3108 is both good looking and well built. Take a trip to the red wing store in red wing MN they have all products on display and are great help.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Beautiful, but stiff I love these shoes, but they took months to break in enough to be wearable for a full day. The leather is so thick/stiff that I had to wear two pairs of socks for the first three months of daily wear. Still not really comfortable, but bearable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is why I buy Red Wing I have been through many pairs of dress shoes since my first foray into the car business. Lots of standing and walking and needing to dress casual to suited on special event days. I have burned through 3 pairs of $100 dress shoes in the last year alone. NO MORE. I have a pair of Iron Rangers and 877s that I've owned over 5 years in rain, snow, salt, mud and they still perform wonderfully. I figured "Why not try a pair of oxfords for daily use." These 101s have far exceeded my expectations in under a few weeks and I'm sure they will continue to stand the test of time and live up to the name in quality. THANK YOU Red Wing!
