STYLE NO. 8181 : Classic Round
Famous for its clean lines, simple construction and classic round toe styling, the 8181 features Hawthorne Muleskinner leather, white Traction Tred rubber outsole, speed hooks for easier lacing, triple stitched quality and Goodyear welt construction.
THE HISTORY BEHIND THE STYLE
Originally developed for farmers, Red Wing introduced the 6-Inch Round Toe work boot in 1919, making it one of our oldest boots. The round toe eliminates the need for extra stitching and the Traction Tred outsole was added in the 1950s for better mud-shedding grip. Durable and well-designed, the 9111 combines the comfort of an oxford with the strength of a work boot in a style that dates back almost a century.
Roughout leather is a reverse suede leather made in our S.B. Foot tannery.
Roughout leather is created using a reverse-suede technique at our very own S.B. Foot Tanning Co. While most tanneries split, thin and weaken the hide to create the rough suede surface, we simply use the other side of the hide. By doing so, we avoid splitting or thinning our full-grain hides. This makes our Roughout leather just as strong and durable as our other leathers.
In order to build a Red Wing boot to an exact size and width, the boot is constructed around a shoe last.
STYLE NO. 8181 : Classic Round
A new pair of Red Wing Heritage boots should fit comfortably tight on your foot, with enough room to freely wiggle your toes. Over time the full grain leather upper, leather footboard and cork midsole mold to your feet, creating an enduring and customized fit over time with each wear.
The 8181 is built using the No. 8 Last:
Features a bump toe for more room up-front
Fits a variety of foot shapes
Should be sized up ½ if used with a footbed or orthotic

My best boots by a country mileHad these boots 2 years now and I can truly say that they are the best boots I've ever had. Yes they took a bit of breaking in, but they now fit like a glove and look majestic. I never fail to get comments when wearing them. Getting the right fit though and good socks is key; I am a UK 9 and went for 8.5 and there is still wiggle space in the roomy toe area. I always wear good woollen walking socks.

ComfortableI read the previous comments after I purchased these boots thankfully. I wear them regularly, initially for good wear but as they aged they became my everyday and a hiking boot. I recently walked 18 miles over rugged terrain and no blisters. I have wide feet and thin socks. Breaking in was never an issue. The leather is thick soft and quality. An excellent purchase.

So UncomfortableI've had these boots for two years, thought it would take a while to break them in but this is ridiculous. I don't know if the sales-guy sold me the wrong size, but these have always been too tight width-wise and don't have much toe-wiggle room. I also don't like how they have eyelets instead of hooks for the top-two lace holes. I know there are versions that have the hooks, but those weren't presented as an option at the store. Luckily, I don't have to be on my feet much at work, otherwise I wouldn't have lasted this long. (Getting a different brand this Christmas). I will say that the build quality is excellent and love the look but just not comfortable considering the price.

Proper JobI’ve been wearing these boots for approximately six months now and I’m not sure I have ever owned a better pair of shoes.
Wear in time was minimal. I do a lot of walking in my job and this undoubtedly helped soften the leather.
The leather has already aged beautifully, a process I’m sure will continue.
I went down half a size on the advice of the chap in the shop, and this was a good call.

Toughest Break InSo these are my 4th pair of Red Wings and by far the most difficult break in to date. I am nearly 6 weeks in and these things have nearly beaten me. The heal shape seems to be slightly different to any other Red Wings so it causes some pretty bad blisters. On a positive note they look great, just don't expect to wear them for more than an hour a day for a while
