STYLE NO. 3343 : Blacksmith

The Blacksmith is a boot beloved for its highly wearable, everyday versatility. A sleek, smooth toe leads the way, and solid brass eyelets and Flat Waxed laces are every bit as durable as they are dignified.

Versatile and reliable, this style of shoe was originally used in farm fields and blacksmith workshops during the day before being cleaned and shined up for a night out on the town. The extra height of this 6-inch style, which would have protected feet and ankles from hot cinders at the forge, still keeps out snow in the winter and dirt in the summer, and its last-built construction keeps feet comfortable even after long hours of work.

Oil Tanned leather is a very durable and vivid leather. Oil Tanned leather is a very durable and vivid leather.

Oil-Tanned Leather

S.B. Foot Tanning Co. is best known for oil-tanned leather which is used to build a variety of timeless Red Wing styles. This leather is water, stain and perspiration resistant, and has a more natural look and feel because less finishing materials have been applied, allowing its natural beauty to shine through. Oil-tanned leather is exceptionally durable and has been used to build countless work boots throughout Red Wing’s 108+ year history.

STYLE NO. 3343 : Blacksmith

A new pair of Red Wing Heritage boots should fit comfortably tight on your foot, with enough room to freely wiggle your toes. Over time the full grain leather upper, leather footboard and cork midsole mold to your feet, creating an enduring and customized fit over time with each wear.

The 3343 is built using the No. 8 Last:

  • Features a bump toe for more room up-front
  • Fits a variety of foot shapes
  • Should be sized up ½ if used with a footbed or orthotic

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect, but slippery on ice and snow. I absolutely love the Blacksmith boot. Although initially though, once broken-in it is incredibly comfortable. The only drawback is that the sole is to hard, which makes the boot dangerously slippery on ice and compressed snow. But, you look good while "bambi on ice"-ing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great boot. This is a great boot right out of the box. I wear them daily for 10 plus hours. I never have an urge to take them off due to discomfort. If you are in pain wearing a brand new pair you brought the incorrect size.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best boots I’ve owned. Just visited your website to look into buying my second pair of these outstanding boots. Bought my first from Geoff at the excellent independent Union Clothing in Newcastle, UK, a year ago and they’re still going strong despite unreasonably regular wear. I live in Kenya so they don’t have an easy life but they fit like a glove and everything about them is still solid.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect Boot I love these boots. Took a few weeks to break in but man are they worth it. Very comfortable. I went to the RW store to try them on which I would recomend. 1\2 size smaller for me. Wear them daily! My only problem is the soles are on the hard side. What I mean by that is they clack on any hard floor surface. I'd give 4.7 stars if I could.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wide feet should only go down a half size Every recommendation I read said to go half to a full size smaller. I went a full size smaller. Which was a bit of a mistake. After 6 months if everyday wear I finally had to get the left boot stretched. To be fair this could have been avoided by going a half size smaller. I am a thirteen and just over a D width. These are great boots and I will happily buy another pair. Even with a rough break-in... It is worth it. I finally moved to insoles around 5 months in. Yes, these mold to your foot, but there is zero cushion. Once the insoles were in , they were tight again for a week or so. In the end my advice is buy these, but don't leave the store with a pair that squeeze your feet unbearably. Go for slightly snug and put insoles in once they loosen up.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Casual Boot I purchased these to wear day-to-day as a more 'adult' alternative to sneakers. They are excellent as an all-purpose boot. The only reason I didn't give it top reviews on all accounts is, I haven't had them all that long. You can wear them with pretty much any non-dress pants. Its not a work boot, but they are rugged enough that you don't have to worry about messing them up. If you don't have an actual work boot, these can stand in for occasional physical work. They are far more comfortable than a pair of leather dress shoes and take a lot less time to break in. If you're used to wearing cross trainers or sneakers every day, these will take some adjustment. I've seen the blacksmith frequently described as "dressier" than the iron ranger. That's kind of true, but misleading to say that because, this is not a dressy boot. It will not function in anything beyond a 'smart casual' dress.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good boot My first pair of Redwings was the Iron Ranger. I had to go a full size smaller to make sure that my foot didn't rattle around with out large socks. The compromise was costly and I went back to find a better fit. With a narrow foot I found the blacksmith to fit well without sock-compensation both in the length and width. The clean profile is classic and break-in time was much shorter than with my iron ranger. I wear these daily (about 6 weeks so far) and can tell that I'll have a long relationship. When it's time for the resole I'll go with a more aggressive lug.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from These boots are worth it! Right off the bat, I'll mention that these boots cost me way more than I would typically consider spending. They weren't cheap. However, after wearing them for about three months now, I am convinced that they were a worthwhile investment that will hold up for a long time to come. The quality of the leather is extremely high, and they are obviously made with a great deal of care. Every stitch is perfect, every detail considered. A minimalist masterpiece! A few thoughts: 1) Buy them tight. Really tight. Not uncomfortable, but as tight as you can. They WILL break in. 2) Break-in took a while, but they eventually mold to your foot like a sock. 3) I brush them regularly and once in a while spray them with water and work in a few drops of the mink oil that came with them (which goes on WAY better when spread out with water) - they look great. 4) I LOVE that they are unlined and don't have an insole - they end up fitting perfectly and don't wear out on the inside from friction. I highly recommend these boots. Yes they are pricey, and yes, many buy them for fashion, but they are also ridiculously well made boots that stand up to regular heavy use and provide all-day comfort once they are broken in. Easily one of the best pairs of shoes I've ever owned.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Buy for fashion, not for comfort These boots look great, but they are absolutely hands-down the most uncomfortable boots I have ever worn. I am in my mid fifties and have been wearing work boots for 30+ years. I own many styles of all the major brands (including many from Red Wing), and the Red Wings are consistently the least comfortable (although for many they can be improved by buying high-quality insoles), but these boots are at the absolute bottom of the comfort list - mainly because adding insoles makes them too small. I tried putting a pair of insoles in them thinking that would add some cushioning, but unfortunately my feet get too cramped. I know these boots are a fashion trend with the younger generation and I think that's great, but I was hoping I was going to be able to actually wear these for an entire day of work on my feet (and not for just 4 hours at the club), but sadly this is not going to happen. It all has to do with the soles and how uncomfortable they are to stand in and walk around in while at work. If there were room inside to add insoles that would make these wearable for longer periods of time. Guess I'll just wear these once in a while as a fashion statement.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don’t think buy Most reviews talk about how hard they are to break in. Neets foot oil!!! If you will soak them liberally set them aside overnight. Wear them, wipe down with damp cloth and coat liberally again, set aside overnight. You may have to do it one more time but I doubt it. Mine are a touch wide should have gotten a B width. But a set of insoles makes everything all right. The price tag is healthy but if you have ever owned a pair of Redwings you know you are getting quality worthy of the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding boot I have worn many a boot in my 60 yrs and this is one of the best ones I have ever had. They are made to the highest standard and fit like a glove when broken in. The only thing I wish is that my inserts from my other redwing boots fit in the heritage boots.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautifully built, comfortable, tough The Red Wing Blacksmith boot is a beautifully constructed boot. It has a simple yet timeless design and uses really good quality materials. It's clear that some solid craftsmanship goes into this boot. The boot is comfortable out of the box - even more so after some break in time. I wear these boots quite a lot. They're great for whatever you throw at them: work or play. They run a tad big. Like a lot of folks, I ordered a half size smaller than I usually wear and that worked out great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Color me impressed This is one exceptional boot! My first pair of Red Wing Heritage boots. The style is spot on for a work boot. This example has pristine craftsmanship: stitching, leather, welt, sole are all in perfect order. If all Red Wing products are this level hat's off, job well done. The photos are after one day of break-in which this leather makes the break-in period very easy compared to other leathers. I'd compare this to an unlined suede for amount of break-in needed. The Spitfire leather is something out of this world too, I've never seen anything like it. I've added some detailed pictures to help show the leather since there isn't much info on this. I'm very excited to see how these shoes patina over time. Key Features: -Mini-lug sole. Great traction and weather protection -Spitfire leather. This is not simply a waxed suede. This is a full grain leather turned inside out (see pictures, you can see the full grain on the interior of the boot which provides a glove leather like interior while being unlined) break-in brownie points. The exterior has then been heavily waxed to lay the nap down and provide a dull shine (think waxed cotton jacket finish, pictures do not do it justice) with the durability of rough-out. This leather feels like it can take a beating. -Thick leather interior toe liner. I believe all the Blacksmith models have this? It's a very nice subtle detail which provides structure to the toe box and supple durability over a cloth liner. Nice to see this, something that could have easily been left out. Question to Red Wing Heritage: The website does not provide specific care instructions for Spitfire leather. the video link is for full grain, the suggested products for this model are boot cream, and other model numbers which use this leather suggest mink oil. How should Spitfire leather be cared for?? Regular maintenance, and long term trying to restore the original finish.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My all time favorite shoes I freaking love these boots! I have had these for almost 8 months and they are the most comfortable pair shoes I have ever owned! I have worn these almost everyday since and they are my all time favorite boots, they are nearly perfect, the only complaint is that the waxed laces do wear very fast but that has nothing to do with the actual boot, I would but these again and again

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I Really Want to Like These Boots--But I CAN'T Wear Them I debated for months on whether to purchase these boots. When I finally decided to pull the trigger, I went down to the Redwing store and laid down the hefty fee. I told myself that boots of such quality would last forever and ultimately be worth it. After a month of daily wear, they were broken in. But they HURT! Some days I'd have to skip wearing them to give my aching feet a break. 3 months after purchase I went back to the Redwing store and explained how painful they were. The clerk suggested I had high arches and these shoes aren't made for high arches (the timing of that information wasn't helpful.) So, I got arch supports. First, one expensive pair. Then another. No change. It has now been 6 months of almost daily use... and I'm giving up. Every day I've been hoping these shoes would turn a corner and become shaped to my foot. I'm now forced to admit they are designed for fashion, not for feet. They hurt my feet so badly. I would love to give these boots 5 stars for quality and appearance. But of what use is that if you can't wear them comfortably. So, be warned: these shoes may be REALLY bad for your feet. And you may not discover that until after you've broken them in and then it's too late.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from One of the best pairs of shoes that I have ever owned, but.... I spend 50 hours a week on a concrete, factory floor and these things are there for every second of it. They're stylish, really comfortable (after a short break-in period), and easily polish right up like new again. My only two qualms with them is that the leather laces broke the first week I owned them and the leather dye in the sole has bled and dyed all of my socks and the bottoms of my feet brown. As I haven't seen this issue in anyone else's reviews, I hope that this is just an anomaly for an otherwise great product. Would without a doubt buy these again, but for the price tag I didn't expect to run into an issue like this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best pair of boots I have ever owned I love these boots. I bought them about a year ago and they are just as beautiful (and more comfortable) as the day I bought them. I have pretty wide feet and was worried about the fit at first but it has worked out well- no discomfort whatsoever. I clean/condition them about once a month and they have held up very well so far. I get compliments on them all the time which is definitely not something I'm used to. My only complaint is the laces they come with- I have already had to replace them (not a huge deal).

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great quality boot, could use a little more comfort I love the look and quality of these boots. I was really hoping that after a year or so of wearing them, that they would break in, but they are still really hard on my feet. There is no cushion in the sole of the boot. I guess I will look into inserts. Any other recommendations?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best boots I have ever owned! I bought these as my first pair of Redwing boots ever. I had heard about them when I was in college but never looked into buying a pair until now. These are the best and most comfortable boots I have ever owned. I loved them so much I bought a pair of the classic moc boots and a pair of the classic chukkas too! Every pair of these boots are amazing. After a short break in period they fit like an absolute glove! I bought the size I normally wear and they fit perfectly. Others have said they run big, but I did not find that to be true. I did try them on in the store though before purchasing. They are worth every penny and I highly recommend them. The craftsmanship and fit are second to none!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First but definitely not last pair of Red Wing This Blacksmith boots are amazing! They fit very well just make sure to get a full size to size and a half smaller than normal shoe size. Color is amazing and they are not as flashy as the Iron Ranger which makes them the perfect boots for in the office or out on the job site. This is exactly what I needed, I just graduated from college and had to transition to dressing for a professional environment and these boots have made it very easy. I have gotten so many compliments while wearing them and they go with jeans and khakis which is perfect for my job. Great buy. Enough said!
