STYLE NO. 8188 : Pecos
The 8188 is from our Pecos western boot collection. Hawthorne Muleskinner leather, brown nitrile cork sole, Goodyear welt construction and triple stitched quality. A Red Wing quality work boot in western styling.
THE HISTORY BEHIND THE STYLE
Red Wing Shoe Company had an office in Dallas, Texas as early as 1923 to serve the unique market of ranchers, cowboys and oil drilling roughnecks in the region. At the time, most of these workers wore pull-on riding boots, often with decorative stitching, and Red Wing responded with one of its own in the 1930s. Our pull-on boot was given a new name, Pecos, after a town in Texas and it evolved into one of our most popular styles, thanks to its simple design, comfortable fit, and rugged good looks. Still made the same way with quality leathers in our factory in Red Wing, the Pecos is now seen on hardworking feet from coast to coast, both ends of the Mississippi, and everywhere in between. Call it a cowboy boot, with a Minnesota twist.
Roughout leather is a reverse suede leather made in our S.B. Foot tannery.
Roughout leather is created using a reverse-suede technique at our very own S.B. Foot Tanning Co. While most tanneries split, thin and weaken the hide to create the rough suede surface, we simply use the other side of the hide. By doing so, we avoid splitting or thinning our full-grain hides. This makes our Roughout leather just as strong and durable as our other leathers.
Hawthorne Muleskinner Leather
In order to build a Red Wing boot to an exact size and width, the boot is constructed around a shoe last.
STYLE NO. 8188 : Pecos
A new pair of Red Wing Heritage boots should fit comfortably tight on your foot, with enough room to freely wiggle your toes. Over time the full grain leather upper, leather footboard and cork midsole mold to your feet, creating an enduring and customized fit over time with each wear.
The 8188 is built using the No. 17 Last:
Western Style toe shape
Tapered last. Close fitting for support
Fits true to size
Should be sized up ½ if used with a footbed or orthotic

Pair of Awesome, Rugged BootsPosting this review specifically for sizing recommendations, I normally wear a size 9 EE in Redwings 875's, I bought these in a size 9 as well, but found them to be WAY too small, I'm 9 EE on a Brannock device and these in a size 10 fit perfectly.
Overall the boots are unbelievably well made, and the leather is very rugged and unlike any other leather I've had on boots in the past.
I own a number of custom made boots and find the craftsmanship of these boots to be up to par with them.

A western boot without the flash, but all the ruggedness. Thank you RW for releasing!Disclaimer: I am a RW super-fan so take this review with that in mind.
This is my second pair of western boots I have ever purchased. I've been in the market for a few years now, however I haven't been able to find something I wanted to invest in. When Redwing released the 8188 recently, I knew these would be it. Truly is a beautiful boot and I cannot wait to see how it ages.
On to the review...
Negatives: since I live in Minnesota and it's cold/snowing six months out of the year I think RW could have done a better job making it an all-year boot, i.e.: cork sole = dangerous in icy and wet conditions, feet freeze in cold weather - this is my reasoning behind the 4 stars. My plan is to wear them until the winter and replace sole with a safer sole (probably something along the lines of what they have done with the new sole on the Iron Rangers). It would be a shame to put these boots away for the winter each year. I would be doing them a disservice if I only used them in spring, winter and fall. Don't expect these to break in right away - give them time. Run a bit narrow.
Positives: good overall western work boot, they can do any job in summer, spring and fall, my other hawthorne leather boot ages incredibly well and are durable, comfortable, easy on/easy off.
I would buy these again and again! Thank you RW for releasing these boots here!

Great Everyday Wear BootI bought this boot to wear during warmer months with lighter-weight jeans and t-shirts.
Super comfortable and great casual styling. I love the lower height of this pull-on.
Would love to see this in a mid-brown and charcoal/black, with the same distressed finish.

beautiful boot, opening a little wideThese are fantastic books. Quality is unmatched. Super comfy right out of the box. Love the sole as well. The leather is a great color and has a really nice feel to it. My only problem is top of the boot is so wide that they bulge out with jeans over them. I wear Levis 501, which isn't even a skinny/slim jean and they still bulge some. It's not a huge deal, just wish the vamp was a little more narrow. Overall, very nice work Red Wing.
