STYLE NO. 8111 : Iron Ranger

The 8111 is a rugged 6-Inch boot, featuring premium Amber Harness leather, chrome hardware, speed hooks, Goodyear welt construction, triple stitched quality, plus a durable Vibram® 430 Mini-lug sole for grip while maintaining the classic Iron Ranger construction and silhouette.

THE HISTORY BEHIND THE STYLE

The early history of iron mining on Minnesota’s Mesabi Range is intertwined with that of Red Wing Shoe Company. The miners needed tough but comfortable boots that could stand up to the long days and tough conditions a northern Minnesota mine pit presented. Red Wing responded with a boot made of thick leather with an oil resisting outer sole, speed lacing hooks, and a comfortable cork midsole. The defining characteristic of these boots though, was their double layered toe, capped to protect the miner’s feet from injury as they labored with hand tools and heavy machinery. That boot is still made today, the fittingly named Iron Ranger, and it represents not only Red Wing’s commitment to making boots for working men and women but also its Minnesota origins.

Oil-Tanned leather is a very durable and vivid leather. Oil-Tanned leather is a very durable and vivid leather.

Oil-Tanned Leather

S.B. Foot Tanning Co. is best known for Oil-Tanned leather which is used to build a variety of timeless Red Wing styles. This leather is water, stain and perspiration resistant, and has a more natural look and feel because less finishing materials have been applied, allowing its natural beauty to shine through. Oil-Tanned leather is exceptionally durable and has been used to build countless work boots throughout Red Wing’s 110+ year history.

STYLE NO. 8111 : Iron Ranger

A new pair of Red Wing Heritage boots should fit comfortably tight on your foot, with enough room to freely wiggle your toes. Over time the full grain leather upper, leather footboard and cork midsole mold to your feet, creating an enduring and customized fit over time with each wear.

The 8111 is built using the No. 8 Last:

  • Many customers buy Red Wing Heritage footwear 1/2 size smaller than their normal size
  • Trying on Red Wing Heritage footwear in a store is recommended to get the perfect fit
  • Features a bump toe for more room up-front
  • Fits a variety of foot shapes

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great boots that will last. This was my first pair of Redwing Boots. They are amazing quality and feel "built like a tank". They only took me about a couple of days for the initial break in and I know they will loosen up more over time. They do run a tad big, I had to size down a whole size, but they feel great. No regrets here, these scream quality and I know they will last me a long time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Surpassed expectations Got these boots right before going on a off-road motorcycle trip through the Colorado Rockies. I don't have a motorcycle so I didn't want to buy motorcycle boots. The whole time I was worried I had ruined the boots right after buying them. Despite riding through rain, mud, wind, hail, dust, rock, and everything else - these boots made it through without a single scratch or blemish, the same can't be said for myself.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best boot ever! As a career infantryman with over 30+ years of service, my feet are my default mode of transportation. Comfortable quality made boots are invaluable. My Iron Ranger boots are the only other boot I wear.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing quality and durability I had been looking to purchase a pair of brown Iron Rangers for a while, but I had a hard time overcoming the initial cost because I did know if it was worth it. I’ll be honest, I’m a hard working guy and I didn’t want to spend money on a bad quality product. I am a Police Officer and get a stipend for boots so I decided to buy a pair in black (#8086) to test them out before spending my own money. I knew that if the Iron Ranger could withstand the elements of patrol they could handle just about anything as a causal boot. It didn’t take long for me to fall in love with the comfort and look; but I expected that would happen, and was more interested in durability over time. For the next couple of months I walked through puddles, mud and grass, stood in pouring rain and 100+ degree heat. Here I am almost a year later and I am blown away at the quality and how the Iron Ranger is held up over time. Not only is this the most comfortable boot I’ve ever worn, but it has no sign of damage or defects. The Iron Ranger proved itself to me during this little experiment and I definitely plan to purchase that brown pair I originally wanted.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from iron ranger black harness I ordered these 3 weeks ago just came in today went in to fit and like I figured fits like a glove. I knew what size to get cuz I already have 3 other iron rangers so there was no guessing. I have to say these boots are what I expected from Red Wing nothing less just love them the quality and looks are just awesome....thanks Red Wing for still making USA handmade boots please don't change.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from EE boot, enough space, really excellent boot In regards Iron Ranger 8085 I normally wear 9E and or EE in shoes. After reading many reviews in regards to wide feet, I went to 8EE with this boot and fits perfect, I have enough space long and fits perfectly wide. I really recommend down 1 size if you have wider feet. Some reviews said 1/2 size but I think that is for narrow feet like D's. It took me 3-4 days to break it the boots like 65-70% and 8 days to do an 80%.... at least wearing it 10 hours a day, I work at office / general construction and just moving around was enough to start breaking the leather, I highly recommend using a tick sock for the first 4 days. If you never wear boots in your life, this is not for you, if you don't use them frequently do not buy it, don't take me wrong, but these boots are made for last long and take a bite not 'only' for fashion. Nothing wrong on the breaking process as normal as any good boot made out there. What a great American boot... This is my first Red Wings boots, so good that I just buy a second pair after 15 days of wearing the 8085.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Get fitted I normally wear a 12d across the board but ended up going down a full size to 11d. That said, I did not consider the fact that there’s no insole until I had already worn them out for a while and noticed my feet were sore. The boots are a tad tight with average sized insoles, but are breaking in nicely and are comfortable at this point. They are beautiful boots and I’ve received a lot of compliments on them. My only recommendation would be to get fitted in a Red Wing store and request insoles to put in the boots before you try them on if you would plan on using them.
