STYLE NO. 8890 : Classic Moc

Modeled after Red Wing’s original work boot style, the 8890 is a 6-Inch Moc Toe featuring Charcoal Rough & Tough leather, white Traction Tred rubber outsole, Norwegian-like welt, triple stitched quality and Goodyear welt construction.

THE HISTORY BEHIND THE STYLE

We began making moc-toe boots in the 1950s for sportsmen. Farm and factory workers quickly took to the boots for their all-day comfort and lasting durability. The crescent-shaped toe stitching is inspired by the construction of moccasins originally worn by the North American Algonquin Indians. Our Classic Moc Toes have since become a legend.

Oil-Tanned leather is a very durable and vivid leather. Oil-Tanned leather is a very durable and vivid leather.

Oil-Tanned Leather

S.B. Foot Tanning Co. is best known for Oil-Tanned leather which is used to build a variety of timeless Red Wing styles. This leather is water, stain and perspiration resistant, and has a more natural look and feel because less finishing materials have been applied, allowing its natural beauty to shine through. Oil-Tanned leather is exceptionally durable and has been used to build countless work boots throughout Red Wing’s 110+ year history.

STYLE NO. 8890 : Classic Moc

A new pair of Red Wing Heritage boots should fit comfortably tight on your foot, with enough room to freely wiggle your toes. Over time the full grain leather upper, leather footboard and cork midsole mold to your feet, creating an enduring and customized fit over time with each wear.

The 8890 is built using the No. 23 Last:

  • Was created in the 1950s and is Red Wing’s most iconic last
  • Includes extra room in the forefoot and instep for easy entry
  • Fits a variety of foot shapes
  • Most customers buy Red Wing Heritage footwear 1/2 size smaller than their normal size
  • Trying on Red Wing Heritage footwear in a store is recommended to get the perfect fit

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This product is terrible I’m a union carpenter and bought these boots 6-7 months ago. I’ve owned many pairs of red wings these are by far have warn out the quickest. They were not sized correctly they are too big was never warned they run big. Soles have completely warn out flat. Went to the store said they couldn’t do anything for me. Contacted customer service and all they can do for me is offer me a resole. The heal is rolling over the edge of the boot clearly something is up with them. I purchased these one because they are one of the few pairs still made in the USA and not filled with the waterproofing material. For the price of these boots they should definitely have lasted longer and red wing should stand behind their product with new boots. They say one year warranty well mine are less then a year old. Maybe I just got a faulty pair and sized wrong but then they should stand behind their stores and product and offer a new pair.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Looks great and is built even better These are the first pair of Red Wings I bought but definitely not the last. I went with the Briar Oil Slick mainly because I have more stuff in my closet that match them then any of the others. I received a compliment the first day I took them out for a stroll. “Those are very nice boots, how much you pay?” a man said to me. Now as for the fit, I followed blog and website suggestions and bought them a half size smaller. I wish I had gone in to a Red Wing store before I made my purchase. My heel slips up and down a bit when I wear regular socks but it’s no big deal and a really easy fix. When I wear my boot socks or anything thicker than an athletic sock, the slippage is ALMOST gone. I also put in a thin insole and now it fits a lot better. Now, I haven’t quite broken them in yet and I know that once that happens these things are supposed to fit like a glove with no slip and everything so, that’s what I’m hoping for. If you’re looking for a good all around, well built & versatile boot, I’d put my money towards any of the Red Wing moc toes. If you have an opportunity to get fitted in a Red Wing store, then do that. If not, buy a half size down and pray they fit and if not, make them fit :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best footwear i've ever purchased I am nearing the end of my breaking in period and I already love these boots. I went to a store that sells them to try them on. I'm glad I got sized for this boot because I ended up getting a 10 1/2 when I normally wear a 12. So comfy and so beautiful.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best boots on the market Loving this , my fav 875 and 877 . Im an Electrician so im on my feet all day, this boots providing great support. Always buying .5 size bigger and getting red wing insert for my arch support , works really well ,all my issues are gone since i switch to red wing with the right insert. Also Made in USA

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Heel destroyed This boots fit wonderfully everywhere but on your heel. My work requires me to walk a lot on concrete floors up to 5+miles a day. However my heels are DESTROYED! I can’t believe to understand why making this boot the defies the heel cup should be INSIDE and not on the outside! So now, as your heel rides up and down it’s rubbing on the seam and the rough sides of the leather. So confusing. I own a pair of ariat work books that have a mole skin sewn into the heel cup so this EXACT thing doesn’t happen. I have purchased my own moleskin and stuck it inside. It worked for awhile. I also got these in an exchange for another boot that was rubbing my big toe raw as well. However, these boots are very nice looking and will probably last a good while if your someone who wears huge thick wool socks.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Best boot once broken in I’ve had my pair for two years now. There will be growing pains as you break the sole in. After about a month, you will be good to go. I wear these to my office and out on the trails. Great boot sucks breaking in.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good, but some issues on larger size So the big question with these boots are always sizing. Initially I tried a 11.5 and 12 in the 1907. They fit me terribly for my foot. So I went to the store. They are supposed to have some wiz bang shoe sizing science machine, and “fit experts”. I didn’t get any of that stuff done. I was the equipment there, but the sales representative didn’t mention it. I wore my Wolverine 1,000 mile boot in. I told them I wear a 12. The first person told me I should go with a 13 then. That surprised me, because everything you read says you should go .5 to 1 size down. Then I had a second representative who also said I should do a 13, and there Red Wing makes no 1/2 sizes between 12 and 13. When trying in the 13, there was little to no heel slip, and my feet barley touch up against the sides. However, there is a ton of length and room in the toe box. However, they fit great in every way. Because Red Wing won’t make a 12.5 according to what the 2 store reps told me, and I don’t see them online, then I cannot get the perfect size shoe. If I want the 875, my option is to try the 12 and have them be too small, or get the 13 and have them be too long. I can’t get a perfect fit because of this, which is frustrating. I’ve wanted an 875 for a long time, so with no other option, I went with the 13. At this point, they seem to be working well, and breaking in fine. It feels a bit awkward with this much room in the toe box, but hoping once they are broken in, soften up, and widen a bit, that they will feel more normal.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best boots I’ve ever owned I sell construction supplies and this is the best boot for my job out there. It is strong, comfortable, and durable enough to get me through the parts of my day that I spend in construction sites. It’s good looking enough to work when I go back to the office. As far as a boot that can make its way through any situation goes there isn’t anythibg better than this. I was using a Danner Moc Toe as my comfortable boot, but the 1907 quickly replaced it. Break in time wasn’t that bad at all. To preserve the Copper Rough and tough color, I condition with Red Wing Leather Cream. The cream along with Red Wing cleaner and leather protector allow me to keep my 1907 looking exactly as it did the first time I tried them on. I’ll be wearing this boot for the rest of my life.
