STYLE NO. 8857 : 6-inch Moc

The 8857 Classic Moc in Loden Abilene leather features the iconic Traction Tred outsole, all-around Goodyear welt, and Puritan triple stitch construction. The Loden Abilene is a dry-tanned roughout leather. Roughout leather is the reverse side of full grain, making it an extremely durable, low-maintenance leather, providing a unique suede-like finish.

THE HISTORY BEHIND THE STYLE

We began making moc-toe boots in the 1950s for sportsmen. Farm and factory workers quickly took to the boots for their all-day comfort and lasting durability. The crescent-shaped toe stitching is inspired by the construction of moccasins originally worn by the North American Algonquin Indians. Our Classic Moc Toes have since become a legend.

Roughout leather is a reverse suede leather made in our S.B. Foot tannery. Roughout leather is a reverse suede leather made in our S.B. Foot tannery.

Roughout Leather

Roughout leather is created using a reverse-suede technique at our very own S.B. Foot Tanning Co. While most tanneries split, thin and weaken the hide to create the rough suede surface, we simply use the other side of the hide. By doing so, we avoid splitting or thinning our full-grain hides. This makes our Roughout leather just as strong and durable as our other leathers.

STYLE NO. 8857 : 6-inch Moc

A new pair of Red Wing Heritage boots should fit comfortably tight on your foot, with enough room to freely wiggle your toes. Over time the Full Grain Leather upper, Leather footboard and Cork Midsole mold to your feet, creating an enduring and customized fit over time with each wear.

The 8857 is built using the No. 23 Last:

  • Was created in the 1950s and is Red Wing’s most iconic last
  • Includes extra room in the forefoot and instep for easy entry
  • Fits a variety of foot shapes
  • Most customers buy Red Wing Heritage footwear 1/2 size smaller than their normal size
  • Trying on Red Wing Heritage footwear in a store is recommended to get the perfect fit

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Work Boot! I'm required to wear an all black boot for work. And I'm on my feet 40+ hours a week. Best work boot I've ever worn!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great summer boot, top quality but take time to break in. This boot is cooler than my 606 and 607s, probably because of the leather footbed, making it a great summer/hot weather boot. Not quite as cushioned though (the trade off). The uppers will last forever with proper care, but be prepared for some break-in time. They're a bit hard on the soles of your feet at first, so I've worn a heavier cushion sock with them. I have a feeling they'll be fully broken in by the time they're ready for resoling! Downsize length 1/2 from Brannock Device size. D Width is about right (only option) but if you're anything more than a single 'E' width, these may be too narrow. The wedge sole is less fatiguing on a long workday than heeled boots, just be careful climbing-no heel to catch you if you slip. The black outsole is great for machine shop or mechanic work, anything where there's grease or oil around because they don't show it and always look good. They also wear a bit fast but provide good cushioning. Overall a great boot and glad I grabbed a pair (on sale) at my local RW Store.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very comfortable work boots Do these boots come in hard toe or soft toe? I love the black. I need them in hard toe

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tuff start but worth it Of all the Red Wing Heritage boots I own (and that’s a few) these were the hardest to break in. Very stiff and hard out of the box and rough on the feet. I stuck with them and now they fit like bedroom slippers. The materials are top notch, the workmanship is typical Red Wing quality. Glad I stuck it out with these boots because I know they will last for many years and provide top shelf comfort and performance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Make them in EE width! I have 2 other pairs of the classic mock toe 6" boots, both resoled many times. Would love a pair of these in 9.5 EE! Make em wide!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from make some in wide and I'll be $270 poorer Man, these are sharp looking. I wish redwing would make more with black outside. This should be a standard model. Black is the starndard in the service industry.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wish it came in a EE I am a mail man so im on my week 8-10 hours a day and not just standing but actually walk 10-12 miles a day so i noticed that after walking so much my feet have actually widened and my arch has collapsed which causes my pinky toe to rub and blister so i wish redwing made more wide width (EE) in their heritage line and made more boot in black since most professions require black leather shoes/boots so hopefully in the near future redwing will consider.
