STYLE NO. 8857 : Classic Moc

The 6-inch Classic Moc is synonymous with Red Wing Heritage. The boot’s unmistakable moc toe and Traction Tred outsole form a silhouette that sets the standard by which all others are measured.

THE HISTORY BEHIND THE STYLE

We began making moc-toe boots in the 1950s for sportsmen. Farm and factory workers quickly took to the boots for their all-day comfort and lasting durability. The crescent-shaped toe stitching is inspired by the construction of moccasins originally worn by the North American Algonquin Indians. Our Classic Moc Toes have since become a legend.

Roughout leather is a reverse suede leather made in our S.B. Foot tannery. Roughout leather is a reverse suede leather made in our S.B. Foot tannery.

Roughout Leather

Roughout leather is created using a reverse-suede technique at our very own S.B. Foot Tanning Co. While most tanneries split, thin and weaken the hide to create the rough suede surface, we simply use the other side of the hide. By doing so, we avoid splitting or thinning our full-grain hides. This makes our Roughout leather just as strong and durable as our other leathers.

STYLE NO. 8857 : Classic Moc

A new pair of Red Wing Heritage boots should fit comfortably tight on your foot, with enough room to freely wiggle your toes. Over time the Full Grain Leather upper, Leather footboard and Cork Midsole mold to your feet, creating an enduring and customized fit over time with each wear.

The 8857 is built using the No. 23 Last:

  • Was created in the 1950s and is Red Wing’s most iconic last
  • Includes extra room in the forefoot and instep for easy entry
  • Fits a variety of foot shapes
  • Most customers buy Red Wing Heritage footwear 1/2 size smaller than their normal size
  • Trying on Red Wing Heritage footwear in a store is recommended to get the perfect fit

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The most comfortable boots I’ve ever owned. I originally bought these boots as part of a cosplay (Daryl from the Walking Dead wears them, so I wanted the cosplay to be authentic) and they turned out to be the most sturdy and comfortable boots I’ve ever worn, I wore them at a festival for a week and my feet didn’t hurt at the end of each day. I’ve had them for 2 years now and I wear them almost every day and they’re still going strong. I’m now hooked on Red Wings and I’m now buying a pair of Red Wing Oxfords to wear to work. If you’re going to be on your feet all day, it’s essential to have comfortable shoes. Red Wings are pricey, but worth every penny.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from American Made Perfection I have been wanting a pair of 1907's for a while now, and I finally purchased a pair a couple days ago. This is my 3rd pair of redwings first being the logger and 2nd being the Roughneck round toe. I should have bought 3 pairs of the 1907's! I love my loggers and Roughnecks, but I am absolutely obsessed with the 1907s. The craftsmanship and style of this boot cannot be beat. A true american classic that performs just as well as it looks. Further, this has a removable insole so you could change it out for your exact application. I do normally wear a 10.5/11 in sneakers, but have found that the perfect Redwing fit for me is a 9.5. The heritage line, as well as all leather boots, will stretch on the width, heel, and toe box. Keep in mind how the boot will fit AFTER the break in period. Redwing, keep up the great work!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Too narrow Beautiful product, superb craftsmanship. Frustratingly narrow. I almost never wear them because they are too narrow, especially in the toe box. I've worn them to the point where they are broken in, but I hardly wear them at all now because they are uncomfortable due to the narrow width. On the Redwing foot measuring device I measure as a 11.5 EE or 12D. I opted for 12D. I wish I had opted for a style that was offered in a 12EE. So my suggestion would be this: if you try on a pair and they feel a bit narrow, especially in the toe box, don't expect that they'll feel better once they break in. Play it safe and opt for a wider pair.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfy and Classy After the break-in, I feel so comfortable walking from home to work which is about a kilometer distance. I love nice shoes and I like how others are mesmerized with my 1907s.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Classically Suave It’s love at first sight. Simple and yet elegant. I love hearing how others are mesmerized with my 1907’s and it’s the first thing that they take notice of.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best money ever spent Hey, I've bought this boot 3 weeks ago and wore it since then 5/6 times and it's already in shape with my feet. Of course, the first 2/3 times were painful but the only problem I had was after the third time wearing, I've got blisters on my heels but it was my own fault. I didn't lace them tight enough and so my heels moved up and down in the boot. The next time I wore it, I laced them up as tight as possible and I walked around the city for a few hours without any problems. The only regret I have is that I didn't buy them already years ago when I came to know them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great boot for work or casual First off unlike many I got this boot fully for a casual boot. I had also read about the "hard" break in and such and that almost made me go with the Wacouta 3335 instead.. BUT im glad when I went into my local Red Wing store that I instead tried this on!! All of a sudden I was like wow this isnt heavy or as thick and hard to break in as I thought it would be from some reviews. I put them on a the store and was almost instantly sold. I thought if these feel this good now I cant wait to see how they will feel in a couple weeks when they actually get fully broken in. I am used to good high quality boots, I dont skimp on boots. I have a pair of Lowa Super Camps...talk about a boot thats awesome once its broken in..but those took me a full 6 weeks to break in($325+).. also have numerous Danners($260-280)(Mountain Trial, Mountain light) etc,etc...but this is my first ever Red Wing.. I got it as a (pre) retirement gift to myself...Figured id maybe never have to but a boot again between this and the Danners that can all be resoled/rebuilt.. I can also tell you this is out of the box for ME more comfortable than my Danners also...maybe its the Moc Toe design VS the lace to toe rounded toe of the Danners I got home and wore them around the house all day yesterday felt awesome. Now im not saying you can or should get these out of the box and go walk for 10 miles in them..I am saying I didnt find them to be heavy or "thick"/"hard" leather wise at all. I wore these all day from 11AM-11PM and they were great..no pain, no rubbing, no blisters/hot spots. Getting older I find that I wear boots like I used to wear hitop sneakers as a kid... a LOT and as my "regular" shoe.. I think the only shoes I own anymore are a pair of running shoes to jog in/walk in..So these will get a LOT of use. For me these ran true to size and to a true D width also ive been wearing between a 10.5-11 in my shoes and this 10.5 was spot on. I will do a re-review and keep you updated but initial thoughts awesome boot..probably the 1st or 2nd best boot I own!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible quality Bought the 1907’s in Copper Rough & Tough. Although I own other boots, these are my first pair of Red Wings. The boot fits true to size and are of impeccable quality. In terms of breakin, I highly recommend 2-3 hours per day of light wear around the house for a couple of weeks before venturing out on a days journey. Overall a fantastic boot!
