STYLE NO. 3340 : Blacksmith

Famous for its clean lines, simple construction and classic round toe styling, the 3340 features Briar Oil Slick leather, a Vibram® 430 Mini-lug outsole, triple stitched quality and Goodyear welt construction.

THE HISTORY BEHIND THE STYLE

Versatile and reliable, this style of shoe was originally used in farm fields and blacksmith workshops during the day before being cleaned and shined up for a night out on the town. The extra height of this 6-inch style, which would have protected feet and ankles from hot cinders at the forge, still keeps out snow in the winter and dirt in the summer, and its last-built construction keeps feet comfortable even after long hours of work.

Oil-Tanned leather is a very durable and vivid leather. Oil-Tanned leather is a very durable and vivid leather.

Oil-Tanned Leather

S.B. Foot Tanning Co. is best known for Oil-Tanned leather which is used to build a variety of timeless Red Wing styles. This leather is water, stain and perspiration resistant, and has a more natural look and feel because less finishing materials have been applied, allowing its natural beauty to shine through. Oil-Tanned leather is exceptionally durable and has been used to build countless work boots throughout Red Wing’s 110+ year history.

STYLE NO. 3340 : Blacksmith

A new pair of Red Wing Heritage boots should fit comfortably tight on your foot, with enough room to freely wiggle your toes. Over time the Full Grain Leather upper, Leather footboard and Cork Midsole mold to your feet, creating an enduring and customized fit over time with each wear.

The 3340 is built using the No. 8 Last:

  • Many customers buy Red Wing Heritage footwear 1/2 size smaller than their normal size
  • Trying on Red Wing Heritage footwear in a store is recommended to get the perfect fit
  • Features a bump toe for more room up-front
  • Fits a variety of foot shapes

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The most comfortable pair of boots I own Superb craftsmanship and quality. Firm support for my feet and a snug fit, yet plenty of wiggle room for my toes. The leather looks and smells amazing. Couldn’t be happier with this purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from December 25 reviewer is more than nit picky These are top notch boots that are made from top quality materials. It’s a Boot not a mantel piece. To any reasonable person these are of top craftsman ship and materials. Some people you just can’t please. If it was perfect they would then say it needed a few rough edges to show character. I love it. Highly recommend. The iron rangers are now on my radar after seeing them at the store. Will be purchasing soon.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My favorite Red Wings ever Couldn't be happier. Bought them before our trip to NYC back in December, broke them in walking Little Italy, Chinatown and Manhattan. Plan to add a second pair in Brown.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great boot - looks, fit, overall comfort, support and quality. One small fix would change 4 to 5 stars. Love the boots for the reasons above. Great to have rubberized/vibram-like outer sole for climates with water and snow/ice. One small fix needed: the last 3 lugged eyelets are actually 'raised' higher than the lower 4 eyelets. The result, combined with a relatively thin tongue, results in rubbing on the inner lower inside of my leg, especially if I wear them tight. Will take to shoe repair store to have them sew on a small linear piece of leather on the outside of the tongue where the raised eyelets rub against my leg. Thicker socks help, but those 3 raised lugs stick out and are hard!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great boot. This is a great boot right out of the box. I wear them daily for 10 plus hours. I never have an urge to take them off due to discomfort. If you are in pain wearing a brand new pair you brought the incorrect size.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good materials and fit. Okay Craftsmanship. Bad store service. I originally bought these boots a month ago. They came with puckering on the toe box on one of my boots, but I payed it no mind since it was very minimal. All of a sudden after 3 weeks of wear the same boot with the puckering started having an issue with the metal shank. It was making a loud creaking noise when I would bend the sole. I took my boots to the store I bought these boots from. The salesperson helping me was trying to make it seem like it was just the leather squeaking and that I was overreacting. Basically implying that I was being nit picky. After finally getting him to exchange my boots, he mentioned this would be the last time he would be able to exchange my boots which I find unfair because I have no idea if my replacement pair would arise with the same or a new defect in the future. I inspected my new boots before I left the store. Everything seemed find except for some minor aesthetic issues such as extra perforations on the soles. The outer edges of the soles could've also used some more sanding, but I am sure it will smoothen itself out with some wear. A day passed and I was extremely pleased with my replacement pair. Surprisingly I felt no discomfort in my first wear this time around. However, when I got home I wanted to admire the boot. As I looked deeper into the craftsmanship I found a fold on the heal seat on my left boot. I am not sure if this will cause issues with the boot's water resistance, hopefully not. I have been considering wether or not I want to have these exchanged because to me this unacceptable from a company that boasts about having top tier craftsmanship, but sells a pair with a decent sized fold at the heel that could potentially compromise the structure or the water resistance of my boot. Not sure what to do anymore since the store I bought these from won't replace my boots. I guess all I can do is pray that I did not waste my money. Hopefully a representative from Red Wing will read this review and get in contact with to at least let me know if I should be concerned with the fold issue on the heel seat of my boot. All issues aside, I love the materials used on these boots. I also enjoy the fit of these boots. I am a size 9.5 on the bannock device and I found the size 8.5 Blacksmith fit me perfectly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best boots I've ever owned! I've had some other boots in the past but nothing compares to these. I get nothing but compliments on them! The break in took about two weeks, I wore socks with extra padding on them and it made it much easier on my feet. I wear these boots every day and they are for sure my preferred shoe of choice.
