STYLE NO. 3341 : Blacksmith

Famous for its clean lines, simple construction and classic round toe styling, the 3341 features Charcoal Rough & Tough leather, a Vibram® 430 Mini-lug outsole, triple stitched quality and Goodyear welt construction.

THE HISTORY BEHIND THE STYLE

Versatile and reliable, this style of shoe was originally used in farm fields and blacksmith workshops during the day before being cleaned and shined up for a night out on the town. The extra height of this 6-inch style, which would have protected feet and ankles from hot cinders at the forge, still keeps out snow in the winter and dirt in the summer, and its last-built construction keeps feet comfortable even after long hours of work.

Oil-Tanned leather is a very durable and vivid leather. Oil-Tanned leather is a very durable and vivid leather.

Oil-Tanned Leather

S.B. Foot Tanning Co. is best known for Oil-Tanned leather which is used to build a variety of timeless Red Wing styles. This leather is water, stain and perspiration resistant, and has a more natural look and feel because less finishing materials have been applied, allowing its natural beauty to shine through. Oil-Tanned leather is exceptionally durable and has been used to build countless work boots throughout Red Wing’s 110+ year history.

STYLE NO. 3341 : Blacksmith

A new pair of Red Wing Heritage boots should fit comfortably tight on your foot, with enough room to freely wiggle your toes. Over time the Full Grain Leather upper, Leather footboard and Cork Midsole mold to your feet, creating an enduring and customized fit over time with each wear.

The 3341 is built using the No. 8 Last:

  • Many customers buy Red Wing Heritage footwear 1/2 size smaller than their normal size
  • Trying on Red Wing Heritage footwear in a store is recommended to get the perfect fit
  • Features a bump toe for more room up-front
  • Fits a variety of foot shapes

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Who knew Charcoal would be such a cool looking colorway? As many others have said, there is an addictive aspect to owning your first pair of Red Wing Heritage series boots. My first, bought about a month ago, was a pair of NOS Blacksmith 2961s I found at Nordstrom Rack (pre Vibram sole version)...my daughter calls them my Kidney Bean boots. (Actually a very accurate description of the colorway.) Because I have experience with 'you get out, what you put in' break-in periods with other quality leather goods, I knew I'd found a winner with the first, stiff as a board, steps I was already fore-warned to expect. Since then, I've purchased one pair of Red Wings/boots per week...Thorogood Dodgevilles (which I'd ordered the week prior to the TDY trip which allowed my Red Wing discovery), Oxblood Iron Rangers, Chestnut Beckmans, and these Charcoal Blacksmiths. I'm not usually a fan of black boots. 28 years in the military (about 14 years of which were in the black boot days before OEF/OIF kicked off) taught me black boots are just heat magnets...so, after being around a sea of black boots for years and years, I simply don't usually give a black boot a second look. However, I read some comments about the Charcoal colorway not appearing to be black-black...but kinda black-brown...so, I decided to add some black to my boot options. The Postman dropped them off at my door last night, and I did my best "kid at Christmas-time" impersonation...well, ok, not really an impersonation, just me being me. These are so cool...sometimes they do look black/black, but then you look at the same spot, from a different angle, and they are black/brown. Also, the contrast from the brown welt, to the Charcoal colorway of the boot...very slick. Sizing...if you have been looking at other reviews, then you know...you just have to try them on. I'm a 9D Brannock Device measurement...and I've found, if I want to wear an insole, I buy an 8 in Red Wing. If I want to just have the sock to leather feel...I buy a 7.5.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect Boot I love these boots. Took a few weeks to break in but man are they worth it. Very comfortable. I went to the RW store to try them on which I would recomend. 1\2 size smaller for me. Wear them daily! My only problem is the soles are on the hard side. What I mean by that is they clack on any hard floor surface. I'd give 4.7 stars if I could.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best boots I ever purchased! After reading many positive reviews, I decided to head over to my local Redwing store. Tried on four styles of boots. I selected the Black Smith boot. Great fit and very easy and quick break in. Great local sales staff.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unique black leather, outstanding quality I picked up a pair of the black prairie Blacksmiths last month and am making good progress breaking these in. The black overdyed “black prairie” leather looks great, and I’m looking forward to see how it patinas. Comparing these to my other boots (Thursday captains, Chippewa 6” Service), these definitely established themselves as the toughest, most carefully constructed pair. A note on sizing, I went a full size down from my sneaker size (10 in Vans, 10.5 in Nikes) to find the right fit. This is a half smaller than I wear in Thursdays, but your results may vary.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wide feet should only go down a half size Every recommendation I read said to go half to a full size smaller. I went a full size smaller. Which was a bit of a mistake. After 6 months if everyday wear I finally had to get the left boot stretched. To be fair this could have been avoided by going a half size smaller. I am a thirteen and just over a D width. These are great boots and I will happily buy another pair. Even with a rough break-in... It is worth it. I finally moved to insoles around 5 months in. Yes, these mold to your foot, but there is zero cushion. Once the insoles were in , they were tight again for a week or so. In the end my advice is buy these, but don't leave the store with a pair that squeeze your feet unbearably. Go for slightly snug and put insoles in once they loosen up.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Casual Boot I purchased these to wear day-to-day as a more 'adult' alternative to sneakers. They are excellent as an all-purpose boot. The only reason I didn't give it top reviews on all accounts is, I haven't had them all that long. You can wear them with pretty much any non-dress pants. Its not a work boot, but they are rugged enough that you don't have to worry about messing them up. If you don't have an actual work boot, these can stand in for occasional physical work. They are far more comfortable than a pair of leather dress shoes and take a lot less time to break in. If you're used to wearing cross trainers or sneakers every day, these will take some adjustment. I've seen the blacksmith frequently described as "dressier" than the iron ranger. That's kind of true, but misleading to say that because, this is not a dressy boot. It will not function in anything beyond a 'smart casual' dress.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good boot My first pair of Redwings was the Iron Ranger. I had to go a full size smaller to make sure that my foot didn't rattle around with out large socks. The compromise was costly and I went back to find a better fit. With a narrow foot I found the blacksmith to fit well without sock-compensation both in the length and width. The clean profile is classic and break-in time was much shorter than with my iron ranger. I wear these daily (about 6 weeks so far) and can tell that I'll have a long relationship. When it's time for the resole I'll go with a more aggressive lug.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well Worth the $$ and get inserts!! This is my 7th pair of wings and have to say that this is my new favorite out of the box. Sizing is true if you own round toes and size down if you wear Mocs. The key is using a pair of foot beds as the leather insole is brutal as I am on my feet 8-9 hrs a day. A 2 week break in period could be expected and use RW leather cream for proper molding. I am looking forward to the patina of this Black Prairie Leather as the brown undertones will only add to this versatile boot's appeal.
