STYLE NO. 2950 : Rover

The 2950 6-inch round toe Rover features our Copper Rough & Tough leather, Goodyear welt construction for durability and good looks on a Coffee Cushion Crepe sole for comfort.

THE HISTORY BEHIND THE STYLE

The Rover was a name given to machine operators in early twentieth-century cotton mills and is also the name of our 6-inch round toe work boot. Made with premium leather from our tannery, and our Cushion Crepe shock-absorbing sole, this boot is built for comfort. The sole was first introduced on our work boots in 1952 and was found on our venerable No. 766 Cush-N-Crepe All Around Work Shoe up until the 1980s.

Oil-Tanned leather is a very durable and vivid leather. Oil-Tanned leather is a very durable and vivid leather.

Oil-Tanned Leather

S.B. Foot Tanning Co. is best known for Oil-Tanned leather which is used to build a variety of timeless Red Wing styles. This leather is water, stain and perspiration resistant, and has a more natural look and feel because less finishing materials have been applied, allowing its natural beauty to shine through. Oil-Tanned leather is exceptionally durable and has been used to build countless work boots throughout Red Wing’s 110+ year history.

STYLE NO. 2950 : Rover

A new pair of Red Wing Heritage boots should fit comfortably tight on your foot, with enough room to freely wiggle your toes. Over time the Full Grain Leather upper, Leather footboard and Cork Midsole mold to your feet, creating an enduring and customized fit over time with each wear.

The 2950 is built using the No. 8 Last:

  • Many customers buy Red Wing Heritage footwear 1/2 size smaller than their normal size
  • Trying on Red Wing Heritage footwear in a store is recommended to get the perfect fit
  • Features a bump toe for more room up-front
  • Fits a variety of foot shapes

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Boot I purchased a pair of Copper Rough and Tough Rovers in December. I was sized for a 9.5 which is a full size down from my normal shoe size, but was a perfect fit for the Rovers. Break in period was about 8 wears but I noticed that my feet were still feeling a bit tired at the end of the day. I went ahead and purchased the Red Wing leather inserts made for this model and it was game changing. Comfort went up 100% and I was able to wear a lighter sock. I have had the Rovers for 3 months now and am very pleased with the comfort, look, and fit of the boot. I am looking forward to many years of use with my Rovers.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor fit I recently purchased these and have worn them a handful of times. The leather felt cheap and the fit was far too loose as compared to my other redwings. Kind of feels as though the boot is defective.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Followup to 12 day review Comfort level still getting better. Can wear all day with comfort. It is hard work for me to put them on. Restraining myself from cutting into the sides of the tongues expecting some loosening/stretching that will make this easier. Highly recommend a Shacke brand stainless steel long shoehorn. Available at Amazon for $9.95. It's the one with a color cord wrapped handle. Twice as thick as metal horns typically found in shoe stores. Very strong and will NOT bend. Very smooth finish which I enhanced with a treatment of Turtle Wax.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Breaking in for twelve days Have worn ten of twelve days since buying. Have worn nothing smaller than size 13 for fifty years. My RW store fitted me with 12. Very hard to get on but loosening up a bit. Buy a long, metal shoehorn! Today almost night and day since yesterday. They are becoming very comfortable. Great feeling that I am wearing near "bulletproof" all leather, American made boots. Patient breakin an obvious necessity. Mine have never been painful, just uncomfortable. But very comfy after ten wearings and will get even better. Very happy with my purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well executed light duty boot The Rover is an excellent light duty work boot. The build quality is immediately apparent. First class construction and material. I wear these to work daily in a music instrument production facility. After minimal break-in they are comfortable all day and fit my personal style perfectly. I ordered them in black. The wedge sole is perfect for interior manufacturing use. I cannot recommend these enough. Thank you Redwing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My first heritage boots! This was my first pair of heritage boots & my first pair of RedWings. These have been comfortable for me since day 1. No hotspots or blisters. Fits comfortably snug. The sole is super quiet. I’m loving these boots and looking forward to wearing them for years to come! I’m a size 9 in running shoes, I bought a size 8 in these.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So happy I found these These boots are one of my most precious possessions. I was skeptical at first because the break in period was painful on my ankles where the top of the boot wraps around. But that was quickly remedied by wrapping the area with a bandana underneath my socks. After 2 weeks, they were comfortable and after a month, I never wanted to take them off because the boots had molded to my feet. I'm sad that I can't wear them right now in the summer, but once the weather cools, I'll wear these every single day. I have no complaints about them and I'm usually good at finding flaws. They're comfortable to walk in for long periods and my steps are ninja soft because of the crepe sole. And since it's a Goodyear welt, I can get some resoled and wear them for the rest of my life (with proper maintenance and care of course). Thank you Red Wing for making these!! The oil-tanned leather really does resist scuffs. The boots do run small. I usually go with 8.5 or 9 in sneakers and I got these boots in size 8. Very satisfied customer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rest Assured... VERY happy with this purchase. I've owned, loved and very seriously worn a pair of Iron Rangers in black harness leather for just over a year now, and was very keen on getting another pair of Red Wings. After a brief but intense breaking in period with these Rovers, I see no reason to expect any less of them. Random observations: Of course, I guess most folks know to size down up to one full size with Red Wing Heritage boots in this last. That being said, these seem to fit ever so slightly larger than my Iron Rangers (Which I purposely sized pretty snug), mainly in length but a tiny bit in width too. Both are within what I consider the margin of error however, and both are perfectly comfortable. Secondly, the Rover sole is definitely more comfortable to walk on, however even after a brief period of ownership, it is clear they are not going to be the most durable soles. I'm fine with this, but maybe it's something to consider.
