STYLE NO. 877 : 8-inch Classic Moc

The 877 is the most iconic Red Wing boot, worn by millions of American workers since 1953. It’s eight inches of premium Red Wing Oro Legacy leather combined with Goodyear welt construction, a Traction Tred outsole and triple stitched quality.

THE HISTORY BEHIND THE STYLE

In 1952, we introduced a boot that has come to be synonymous with Red Wing ever since. The 8-inch Style No. 877 was made with russet colored leather, tanned using the sap of sequoia bark, yielding a rich color that was very close to the coat of an Irish Setter hunting dog. The 877 had a crescent-stitched “moc toe” and sported a wedge sole made from a white crepe rubber that promised to be quiet underfoot for sportsmen in the woods. This sole had been used on shoes before but the No. 877 was the first to use it on a tall hunting boot. In addition to its benefits for the stalking hunter, its comfort also found favor on the job site and soon the 877 was seen in the factories and on the scaffolds of a growing America. The No. 877 has changed little from its origins, remaining essentially the same boot that was ceremonially presented to President Eisenhower in 1960. Today it is the iconic Red Wing boot.

Oil-Tanned leather is a very durable and vivid leather. Oil-Tanned leather is a very durable and vivid leather.

Oil-Tanned Leather

S.B. Foot Tanning Co. is best known for Oil-Tanned leather which is used to build a variety of timeless Red Wing styles. This leather is water, stain and perspiration resistant, and has a more natural look and feel because less finishing materials have been applied, allowing its natural beauty to shine through. Oil-Tanned leather is exceptionally durable and has been used to build countless work boots throughout Red Wing’s 110+ year history.

STYLE NO. 877 : 8-inch Classic Moc

A new pair of Red Wing Heritage boots should fit comfortably tight on your foot, with enough room to freely wiggle your toes. Over time the full grain leather upper, leather footboard and cork midsole mold to your feet, creating an enduring and customized fit over time with each wear.

The 877 is built using the No. 23 Last:

  • Was created in the 1950s and is Red Wing’s most iconic last
  • Includes extra room in the forefoot and instep for easy entry
  • Fits a variety of foot shapes
  • Most customers buy Red Wing Heritage footwear 1/2 size smaller than their normal size

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best boot for concrete I’m an electrician working 10+ hours a day on smooth concrete factory floors, walking on average of 8+ miles a day. Before these boots my feet would ache after a full days work, I read review after review and tried boot after boot to try and remedy my issue. I was steered away from these boots because they “wore” fast. I wore them out in 8 months, no sole left at all. But it’s worth it, I’ve noticed such a difference in my fatigue level after a shift and my mood when my feet aren’t killing me, these are hands down the most comfortable boot I’ve ever owned and will be the only pair I own. I’ve got two sets that I rotate out, when one wears down I stick em in the closet and slap on the others, and get the first pair resoled. Worth ten times their weight in gold.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from They take some getting used to. I'm 2.5 weeks into my 877's and I love them. First off, I've read loads of reviews and forums regarding sizing of these boots. I usually buy 13's but I went into a Red Wing store and got sized on their Brannock device. I came in at around 12.5-13 length, D width. They put me in a size 11.5 D. After a week I thought they were way too small so I went back just to chat with the very knowledgeable sales rep and he assured me after they break in they will be great. After 2.5 weeks, wearing them everyday, they are feeling very comfortable especially after having them on for a couple hours and letting them warm up. My toes are very close to the end so I think next time (and there will be a next time!) I'm going to go up a half size.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You don't have to even break them in. Nice soft leather. I've been an Ironworker for 30+ years it's the only boot I have ever worn. The flat soles are perfect for walking iron and seems to grip the beam. I can't say enough about this boot. Been retired for 15 years and still have 3 pair in the closet wear them 5 days a week just doin things around the house.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best quality walking boot I know of. Important to know the Redwing Store will change out as many eyelets as you want and replace with hooks, no charge. Especially important to know for those who like the top 5 or so to simply hook.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Like being in the arms of my mommy - they are that comfortable. Very Comfortable on concrete. For years I wore boots off of that truck in the work parking lot. They were free to me, so why spend $ on work boots. WRONG. I wish I had bought these 20 years ago. The 8-inch classic moc is not only the most comfortable boot I have ever owned, they are the most comfortable shoe I have ever owned. They are up there with Michelin tires and Northern toilet paper as one of the top purchases I have ever made in my life. When I lace them up, it is if I am wrapping my feet in cocoons of happiness. I routinely walk 6-10 miles a day on smooth warehouse concrete and stabilized yard. I am writing this after 9 months of daily use. I have read other reviews that state that there is a long break in time. My experience was different. I wore them some on a weekend and while a little stiff for a few days, they were never uncomfortable and broken in before the end of the first week.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent & tough, a true Ironworkers boot Im a 14 but size down to a 13. These boots are amazing once broken in & I have had them resoled multiple times. Each time they return better than the last like slippers molded to my feet. Great for walking & climbing the iron. These boots were made for Ironworkers, not fashion & hipsters trying to be men in my opinion.
