STYLE NO. 8001 : Work Oxford

The 8001 Work Oxford features Oro Russet Portage leather from our tannery in Red Wing, Minnesota, a Norwegian welt and the popular Traction Tred outsole. The round toe gives it a twist on the oxford silhouette.

THE HISTORY BEHIND THE STYLE

The Work Oxford was inspired by the 1950s Red Wing round toe oxford, the 303, built on a wedge outsole with a Norwegian welt. The current version has been available in Japan and is now available in the U.S.

Oil-Tanned leather is a very durable and vivid leather. Oil-Tanned leather is a very durable and vivid leather.

Oil-Tanned Leather

S.B. Foot Tanning Co. is best known for Oil-Tanned leather which is used to build a variety of timeless Red Wing styles. This leather is water, stain and perspiration resistant, and has a more natural look and feel because less finishing materials have been applied, allowing its natural beauty to shine through. Oil-Tanned leather is exceptionally durable and has been used to build countless work boots throughout Red Wing’s 110+ year history.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Second pair of my favorite shoes I wrote a review of the oro russets. That review still stands. They are the same shoes, obviously, just in different leather. These are still my favorites. The oro russet were a little hard to match with various outfits and stood out more. I still wore them a ton, and will wear them a ton, but they are a little harder to wear. (That said, they are about the most comfy ever.) So, I'd been wanting them in black as well and finally found a deal I could not pass up. So glad I got them. These do run pretty long. I normally wear a 10.5 in most Red Wings (and 11 or 11.5 in other brands usually). I noticed my 8001s seemed a little longer than, say, my 10.5 Iron Rangers or 10.5 moc toes. I'd like to try the 8001s or 8002s in 10 just to see. For me, I think 10 might be more snug, and especially if I intend to wear thin socks, which I sometimes would like to in the summer. But, in the end, these are work shoes. They are like the work boot line, minus the ankle. They're tough. They are also ridiculously comfortable. I love walking in them. I'm not sure what it is specifically about these shoes, this last, and this form factor. I have some of the round toe boots with traction tread as well (they should have kept making them! although the Rovers are awesome, I prefer the traction tread that these have, and I like the steel shank). They are also comfy, but something about these is just perfect. I also have some of the moc toe oxford shoes. They are awesome too, and I love them, but, again, just something about these specific shoes, 8001 and 8002. They are great. I'd probably consider buying yet another pair in a different color, in fact. Breathability is great, by the way. Someone asked on my other review, but I can't figure out how to reply. I can actually wear these with thick wool socks in the summer. One can also wear them with thinner socks, obviously, even the "no see" socks. For me, they were comfy right out of the box, regardless of sock choice, and they breathe better than canvas honestly. My feet get hot in my converse chuck taylors for instance. They don't in these. On the other hand, with wool socks, these are also warm in the winter (except for my exposed ankles obviously). So, again... probably my favorite footwear of all time, and the black color is more versatile (even if the oro russet might be more fun! oxblood might have been more versatile).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from machinist as with all red wings i'v owned over the years, they are works of art, and get better with age. i love them. one problem with this oxford was the shoe laces measured 24 inches long, couldn't keep them tied. U.S. made 36 inch replacements are available on ebay. now them are perfect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Please make these in double E Personally I think you should make all your shoes in EE. But this one especially, it is so beautiful and it is so hard to find an attractive EE in an Oxford style. Please please consider making it in EE.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My favorite shoes of all-time and maybe my favorite Red Wings of all-time I absolutely love these. I'm so glad they brought them over from the Japanese market (the Japanese love Red Wings!). These are my favorite shoes of all-time, and they might be my favorite Red Wings of all-time. I paid more for them than for any other Red Wing, and I'm really happy with them. They're ridiculously comfortable. The color is redder than I expected (they're called Russet, though, so I shouldn't be surprised)--and I love it, super unique. Unbelievable how comfy they are to walk in. I size down a full size from my athletic shoe size, and I actually wonder if I could go down another half. But, if you know what size you wear in last 23 or last 8, that's probably what size you'll want here. I have slightly narrow feet which might allow me to size down a little more. Remember, you want enough toe room (but not too much!). They will stretch out width-wise, but they will not stretch out length-wise. I don't know why it says to use neutral polish on these. It is oil-tanned leather, so I use the All Natural Leather Conditioner and the leather protector spray. You could also use the leather cream. These look amazing with denim, but they also look amazing with pretty much anything from chinos to a suit and dress slacks. You can dress them down and dress them up. They're tough as nails but look like a million bucks. I buy these because they'll last forever with some care, and when the soles wear out, they can be resoled. They're union-made in the USA. I used to buy cheap sweatshop athletic shoes 2-3 times per year, and they'd fall apart. I wish I'd discovered Red Wing years ago. Instead of the 2-3 pairs of junk shoes, I can buy one pair of Red Wings and have them for life.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best of both worlds: I'm someone who owns multiple pairs of RW Heritage shoes, but these are my favorites immediately. I love them because I'm a professional who is not at a desk--I wear a tie but I am standing or walking all day long; therefore, the Heritage line are a perfect blend of style and support. I'm not going to review RW as a company or their quality because that's a guarantee, just the elements that are unique to the shoe. Pros: beautiful color (not as orange as the picture, more of a rich, deep orangish/red), lighter than expected, comfortable immediately, heel does not rub, enough lace area to feel snug, Norwegian welt beyond functionality adds a beautiful color contrast. Cons: this is super minor, but I totally agree with the other reviewer that the original laces are too short. RW needs to remedy this. I luckily paid extra and bought the 36" laces as well. They're not anywhere too long, just right. RW should just start selling them on the shoe and save everyone $7 and the hassle.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great oxfords These Red Wing Oxfords are quite narrow so make sure you get fitted in a store. They are very comfortable after breaking in and look sharp. Wish they came with 36 inch laces and not 32. That is my only complaint.
