STYLE NO. 3343 : Blacksmith

Versatile and reliable, this style of shoe was originally used in farm fields and blacksmith workshops during the day before being cleaned and shined up for a night out on the town. Today, the Blacksmith is built using premium Red Wing leathers and a durable Vibram® 430 Mini-lug outsole. The extra height of this 6-inch style keeps out snow in the winter and dirt in the summer, while the classic construction keeps feet comfortable even after long hours of work.

THE HISTORY BEHIND THE STYLE

Versatile and reliable, this style of shoe was originally used in farm fields and blacksmith workshops during the day before being cleaned and shined up for a night out on the town. The extra height of this 6-inch style, which would have protected feet and ankles from hot cinders at the forge, still keeps out snow in the winter and dirt in the summer, and its last-built construction keeps feet comfortable even after long hours of work.

Oil-Tanned leather is a very durable and vivid leather. Oil-Tanned leather is a very durable and vivid leather.

Oil-Tanned Leather

S.B. Foot Tanning Co. is best known for Oil-Tanned leather which is used to build a variety of timeless Red Wing styles. This leather is water, stain and perspiration resistant, and has a more natural look and feel because less finishing materials have been applied, allowing its natural beauty to shine through. Oil-Tanned leather is exceptionally durable and has been used to build countless work boots throughout Red Wing’s 110+ year history.

STYLE NO. 3343 : Blacksmith

A new pair of Red Wing Heritage boots should fit comfortably tight on your foot, with enough room to freely wiggle your toes. Over time the full grain leather upper, leather footboard and cork midsole mold to your feet, creating an enduring and customized fit over time with each wear.

The 3343 is built using the No. 8 Last:

  • Many customers buy Red Wing Heritage footwear 1/2 size smaller than their normal size
  • Trying on Red Wing Heritage footwear in a store is recommended to get the perfect fit
  • Features a bump toe for more room up-front
  • Fits a variety of foot shapes

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Casual Boot I purchased these to wear day-to-day as a more 'adult' alternative to sneakers. They are excellent as an all-purpose boot. The only reason I didn't give it top reviews on all accounts is, I haven't had them all that long. You can wear them with pretty much any non-dress pants. Its not a work boot, but they are rugged enough that you don't have to worry about messing them up. If you don't have an actual work boot, these can stand in for occasional physical work. They are far more comfortable than a pair of leather dress shoes and take a lot less time to break in. If you're used to wearing cross trainers or sneakers every day, these will take some adjustment. I've seen the blacksmith frequently described as "dressier" than the iron ranger. That's kind of true, but misleading to say that because, this is not a dressy boot. It will not function in anything beyond a 'smart casual' dress.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good boot My first pair of Redwings was the Iron Ranger. I had to go a full size smaller to make sure that my foot didn't rattle around with out large socks. The compromise was costly and I went back to find a better fit. With a narrow foot I found the blacksmith to fit well without sock-compensation both in the length and width. The clean profile is classic and break-in time was much shorter than with my iron ranger. I wear these daily (about 6 weeks so far) and can tell that I'll have a long relationship. When it's time for the resole I'll go with a more aggressive lug.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well Worth the $$ and get inserts!! This is my 7th pair of wings and have to say that this is my new favorite out of the box. Sizing is true if you own round toes and size down if you wear Mocs. The key is using a pair of foot beds as the leather insole is brutal as I am on my feet 8-9 hrs a day. A 2 week break in period could be expected and use RW leather cream for proper molding. I am looking forward to the patina of this Black Prairie Leather as the brown undertones will only add to this versatile boot's appeal.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Boot. Longer break in. These are my third pair of redwings. Been wearing the 8111 day in and day out for and and leaisure favorite boot ever. I decided to get another pair once the old 8111 started to show wear from 2 years of 6 to 7 days a week 8 to 10 hours a day use. the leather between the too is the biggest difference the saddle leather broke in much more easily than this rough and tough. After the first day of wearing these I thought i had sized them wrong my feet hurt so bad. My 8111 were a breeze to break in didn’t need a spare set of shoes ever during the first week or so. But these were a different animal altogether. Took about 2 weeks of intermittent use breaking them in to get them wearable all day(another week to break in the ankle cuff on account of my tree trunk ankles). After that though they are now just as comfortable as my 8111. Highly recommend them if you can take the time to break them. Otherwise it might feel like they broke you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from These boots are worth it! Right off the bat, I'll mention that these boots cost me way more than I would typically consider spending. They weren't cheap. However, after wearing them for about three months now, I am convinced that they were a worthwhile investment that will hold up for a long time to come. The quality of the leather is extremely high, and they are obviously made with a great deal of care. Every stitch is perfect, every detail considered. A minimalist masterpiece! A few thoughts: 1) Buy them tight. Really tight. Not uncomfortable, but as tight as you can. They WILL break in. 2) Break-in took a while, but they eventually mold to your foot like a sock. 3) I brush them regularly and once in a while spray them with water and work in a few drops of the mink oil that came with them (which goes on WAY better when spread out with water) - they look great. 4) I LOVE that they are unlined and don't have an insole - they end up fitting perfectly and don't wear out on the inside from friction. I highly recommend these boots. Yes they are pricey, and yes, many buy them for fashion, but they are also ridiculously well made boots that stand up to regular heavy use and provide all-day comfort once they are broken in. Easily one of the best pairs of shoes I've ever owned.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Buy for fashion, not for comfort These boots look great, but they are absolutely hands-down the most uncomfortable boots I have ever worn. I am in my mid fifties and have been wearing work boots for 30+ years. I own many styles of all the major brands (including many from Red Wing), and the Red Wings are consistently the least comfortable (although for many they can be improved by buying high-quality insoles), but these boots are at the absolute bottom of the comfort list - mainly because adding insoles makes them too small. I tried putting a pair of insoles in them thinking that would add some cushioning, but unfortunately my feet get too cramped. I know these boots are a fashion trend with the younger generation and I think that's great, but I was hoping I was going to be able to actually wear these for an entire day of work on my feet (and not for just 4 hours at the club), but sadly this is not going to happen. It all has to do with the soles and how uncomfortable they are to stand in and walk around in while at work. If there were room inside to add insoles that would make these wearable for longer periods of time. Guess I'll just wear these once in a while as a fashion statement.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don’t think buy Most reviews talk about how hard they are to break in. Neets foot oil!!! If you will soak them liberally set them aside overnight. Wear them, wipe down with damp cloth and coat liberally again, set aside overnight. You may have to do it one more time but I doubt it. Mine are a touch wide should have gotten a B width. But a set of insoles makes everything all right. The price tag is healthy but if you have ever owned a pair of Redwings you know you are getting quality worthy of the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No break-in Bought a pair in Briar Oil Slick in April in Chicago. I wore them right out the store after selecting these over the IRs I set out to buy that day. This leather is absolutely awesome! All my other Red Wings required some break-in time, especially my wife’s Silversmiths in Copper R&T, those things are still killing her feet 5 months later. I walked around 10miles in the city that day in them and my feet were no more sore than they should be from walking 10miles on hard sidewalks in a single day. They have not hurt me once since, so they literally required no break-in at all! I love the rich look of the leather and try find every excuse to wear them. Sized a half size down from my sneaker size. This is the fourth pair of Red Wings I’ve purchased in less than a year.
